Chapter 8 - THE REAL QUEENS REIGN

Six months later.
The grand ballroom of the Sterling Plaza was illuminated by crystal chandeliers, filled with hundreds of elite business leaders, international fashion icons, and global media outlets. The atmosphere was electrifying.
Tonight was the global launch of Aura Empire—the rebranded, massively expanded conglomerate combining Aura Couture with Vanguard’s revolutionary medical technology division.
I stood backstage, looking into a full-length mirror.
I wore an exquisite, breathtaking emerald-green silk gown designed by my own hands. My skin glowed with health, my posture radiating the strength of a woman who had walked through hellfire and emerged as the ruler of her own destiny.
Beside me, in a double stroller custom-crafted with gold accents and high-tech climate control, sat Liam and Chloe. They were eight months old now—chubby, healthy, with bright blue eyes that laughed at the world.
"They look just like you, Audrey," my grandfather said, walking into the dressing room, wearing a tuxedo with a proud, beaming smile.
"They have your stubbornness, Grandfather," I laughed, kissing both of my babies on their soft cheeks.
Julian Vance walked in, holding a tablet. "The court has finalized everything, Audrey. Dominic’s final appeal was rejected. He will serve twenty-five years at a maximum-security federal facility without the possibility of parole. Natalie received fifteen years for her role in the conspiracy."
"And Blackwood Pharmaceuticals?" I asked.
"Liquidated," Julian smirked. "Vanguard acquired their assets at auction for pennies on the dollar yesterday morning. You are now officially the controlling shareholder of the largest medical tech firm in North America."
"Good," I said, adjusting my emerald earrings. "Send their remaining employees severance packages. The innocent ones deserve a fresh start."
"It’s time, Ms. Sterling," the event manager announced from the doorway. "The press is waiting."
The heavy velvet curtains parted.
As I walked out onto the massive stage, holding Liam in my arms while my grandfather pushed Chloe’s stroller beside me, a deafening wave of applause erupted through the ballroom. Flashes from a hundred cameras lit up the room like stars.
I stepped up to the podium, looking out over the massive crowd, the live broadcast streaming to millions of viewers worldwide across every major news network and social media platform.
"Fourteen months ago," I began, my voice clear, powerful, and echoing with absolute confidence through the speakers, "a man stood over me in a hospital room while my premature babies fought for their lives. He handed me divorce papers, took everything he thought I owned, and told me that I was nothing."
The crowd went completely silent, hanging onto every single word.
"He believed that because I had no family name on display, because I was silent, because I was vulnerable in a hospital bed—that I was helpless."
I paused, looking directly into the primary news camera, knowing that somewhere in a bleak federal prison, Dominic was watching this broadcast on a small communal television screen.
"He was wrong," I continued, a beautiful, devastating smile lighting up my face. "He didn't realize that true power isn't given by a man, or stolen in the dark. True power is built through resilience, forged in love, and protected by family."
I raised my glass of champagne high into the air.
"To every woman who has ever been underestimated, betrayed, or left for dead: sign the papers, pick up your phone... and build your empire."
The crowd rose to their feet in a roaring standing ovation that shook the very foundation of the hall.

And as I looked down at my healthy, thriving children sleeping peacefully beside me, I knew that this wasn't just the end of a nightmare.
It was the beginning of my reign.
