Chapter 8 - The Ultimate TwistDamian slowly reached for the gun under his pillow, but Viktor—his most trusted lieutenant—instantly stepped behind Damian and pressed the barrel of his rifle to the back of Damian’s head.

“Don't move, Don Volkov,” Viktor said coldly.

Damian stared in absolute shock. “Viktor... you too?”

“Viktor has been on my payroll for five years, Damian,” I said softly, standing up from the armchair and smoothing down my black dress. “Julian was too stupid to rule, and you were too smart to beat in a direct war. So I created a scenario where you would tear your own empire apart from the inside.”

“Who are you?” Damian gritted out, his eyes burning with fury.

“My name is Elena Sokolov,” I revealed. “Daughter of Nikolai Sokolov—the man you executed ten years ago to take control of the East Coast shipping routes.”

Damian’s eyes widened as the memory hit him. “Nikolai’s daughter... you were supposed to be dead.”

“I survived,” I said coldly. “And I spent a decade planning my revenge. I needed you weak. I needed you paranoid. I hired Vance to place the EMP device, and I used Julian’s greed to cover my tracks. Everything went according to plan... until tonight.”

Damian looked at Lila, who was still sitting on the bed, holding her drawing pad.

“And the child?” Damian asked, his voice breaking slightly. “Did you use your own daughter as a weapon?”

I walked over to the bed and sat down beside Lila. I gently picked her up and placed her in my lap.

“Lila is my daughter,” I said, my tone softening for a brief second as I stroked her hair. “She was born deaf. That wasn't a lie. But her ability to sense vibrations... that wasn't a trick. She really did feel your heart, Damian. And what she told me in the chapel was true.”

Lila looked up at Damian. She raised her small hands and signed to him: Bad mother?

I looked down at Lila, a single tear escaping my eye.

“I thought I wanted blood revenge,” I confessed, looking back at Damian. “I spent ten years building this trap to destroy you. But over the last twenty-four hours... watching you protect my daughter with your life... watching you put your body between her and Vance’s bullets...”

I reached into my coat pocket. Viktor shifted his grip on his rifle, ready to shoot, but I raised my hand to stop him.

I pulled out the black leather folder—the one containing the ten million dollars and the clean passports Damian had given me earlier.

I placed it gently on Damian’s chest.

“My father was a monster, Damian,” I said, my voice trembling with raw emotion. “And for ten years, I was turning into him. But when I saw my daughter touch your heart... and when I saw you treat her like a human being instead of a weapon... I realized something.”

I looked into Damian’s eyes.

“You are not the man who killed my father out of cruelty. You did it to survive. Just like I’m doing this to survive.”

I stood up, holding Lila tight in my arms.

“Viktor, stand down,” I ordered.

Viktor hesitated, then slowly lowered his rifle from Damian’s head.

Damian stared at me in disbelief. “You’re walking away? After everything?”

“The Bratva is destroyed. Julian is in prison. Vance is dead,” I said, walking toward the bedroom door. “Your empire is safe, Don Volkov. And my debt to my father’s ghost is finally settled.”

I stopped at the doorway and turned back to look at him one last time.

“The gold medallion Lila jammed into the server? It had a GPS tracker inside it,” I added with a faint smile. “The FBI will be arriving at this mansion in exactly ten minutes. If I were you, Damian... I’d take your millions, retire, and start living a real life.”

Lila looked over my shoulder as I walked out into the corridor. She raised her tiny hand toward Damian and signed one final message: Live.

Damian sat in his bed as the sirens began to wail in the far distance, looking at the empty doorway, feeling his strong, steady heart beat inside his chest—alive, free, and forever changed by a deaf child who heard what no one else could.
