Chapter 8 - Awakening in the RuinsAn hour later, the grand ballroom was entirely empty of guests. The opulent chandeliers cast harsh, sterile light over overturned champagne flutes, discarded diamond earrings, and scattered programs of an engagement party that had turned into a slaughterhouse of secrets.

Luca and Vivian sat bound to heavy mahogany chairs in the center of the room, their faces bruised, their spirits utterly broken.
Alessandro stood by the tall terrace doors, looking out into the cool October night. The dying roses on the stone patio rustled in the wind. Behind him, Rosa stood quietly near the doorway, holding little Lily fast asleep in her arms. The child’s head rested softly against Rosa’s shoulder, her small fists clutched peacefully around the threadbare gray rabbit.
Alessandro turned around, his cold gray-blue eyes sweeping over the two traitors who had nearly destroyed his life.
"For fifteen years, I believed that power was maintained through absolute fear and unyielding control," Alessandro said softly, his voice echoing in the vast, empty room. "I thought loyalty could be bought with money, medical bills, and saved lives. I was wrong."
He walked over to Rosa and gently touched the child’s small hand—the same hand that had courageously signed the warning that saved his life.

"Tonight, I learned that true loyalty doesn't come from boardrooms, syndicates, or million-dollar peace treaties," Alessandro continued, looking directly at Luca and Vivian. "It comes from the people you treat as invisible. It comes from those who have nothing left to lose, yet choose to do what is right anyway."
He gestured to the tactical commander standing by the doors. "Take them to the docks. Put them on the midnight freighter heading south. Let them live the rest of their lives in exile, knowing that they lost an entire empire because a three-year-old child was smarter and braver than both of them combined."
