Chapter 7 - THE FINAL HEISTThirty minutes later, the blizzard had cleared, leaving the city of Boston blanketed in a deceptive, blinding white silence.

At the top floor of the Harrison Dynamics Tower in downtown Boston, chaos reigned. The executive floor was lit only by emergency red strobes. System alerts flashed on every glass screen as servers across three continents self-destructed, wiping decades of stolen research and illegal assets.
Arthur Sterling stood behind his massive mahogany desk, frantically shoving encrypted hard drives and stacks of bearer bonds into a leather duffel bag.
“Get the helicopter on the roof!” Sterling screamed at his remaining guard. “Now!”
“The helicopter isn't coming, Arthur,” a sharp voice called out from the doorway.
Sterling spun around, pulling a snub-nosed revolver from his desk drawer.
Standing in the doorway was Sarah Vance. She wore an old black winter coat, her face cold and resolute. Beside her stood Mia, holding her purple backpack over one shoulder.
Behind them walked Richard Harrison, covered in soot and snow, his sidearm resting at his hip.
“You…” Sterling gasped, his hands shaking as he aimed the gun at Richard. “How did you get into this building? The security grid—”
“The security grid was designed by my husband, Arthur,” Sarah said, taking a slow step into the office. “He built a back door into every floor of this tower before you had him murdered.”
Sterling laughed hysterically. “You think you’ve won? The federal agents won't reach this floor for another ten minutes! I can kill all three of you right now, take the hard drive, and be in a non-extradition country by sunrise!”
“You could try,” Mia said quietly.
She reached into her purple backpack and pulled out a small, gray plastic box with a single red LED light flashing on top—the frequency generator her father had built to test organ signal response.
“What is that little brat holding?” Sterling sneered, his finger tightening on the trigger.
“It’s a localized electromagnetic pulse speaker,” Mia said simply. “My dad built it to clear clogged valves. But if I turn the knob all the way to the right…”
Mia twisted the dial on the small box.
A high-pitched acoustic hum filled the room.
Instantly, the electronic firing pin inside Sterling’s modern high-tech firearm jammed, clicking uselessly as he pulled the trigger over and over. Click. Click. Click.
At the exact same moment, the heavy blast doors behind Sterling slammed shut, locking him inside the office. The elevators in the corridor outside shut down, trapping his remaining private security team in the lobby below.
Sterling dropped the useless gun, backing up against the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the frozen city. “You’re crazy… all of you!”
May you like
“No,” Richard said, walking over and snatching the duffel bag of stolen bonds from the desk. “We’re just parents.”
Down in the plaza below, the blue and red lights of a hundred federal law enforcement vehicles illuminated the snowstorm, their sirens wailing in unison as tactical units spilled out to secure the building.
