Chapter 2 - The Truth Exposed

Ethan didn't hesitate another second. He plunged into the pool fully clothed, cutting through the water with violent efficiency. He pulled Rosa's limp body to the surface and dragged her onto the deck, pumping her chest until she coughed up water, gasping for air.
Once Rosa was breathing, Ethan slowly stood up. His expensive suit was ruined, soaking wet, dripping onto the marble. But his face was completely pale, his eyes wide with absolute horror and disbelief.
He turned to look at little Lily, who was now clutching her mother's wet uniform.
"What... what did you just call me?" Ethan asked, his voice cracking, tears instantly swelling in his eyes.
Vivian rushed over, her face twisted in panic, trying to regain control of the situation. "Ethan, baby, ignore the child! She's confused! And that clumsy maid slipped, I barely touched her! We need to clear these people out, this is a disaster—"
"Shut up, Vivian," Ethan barked, his voice filled with a cold, lethal rage that no one present had ever heard from him before.
He dropped to his knees in front of Lily, taking her tiny, shivering hands into his own big, trembling ones.
"Sweetheart," Ethan whispered, tears finally streaming down his face, uncaring of the dozens of high-society guests staring at him in shock. "Why did you call me Daddy?"
Rosa sat up, shivering violently, her voice weak as she tried to hold Lily back. "Ethan... please... don't..."
"Four years ago," Lily lisped innocent eyes wide as she looked at Ethan's face. "Mama has a picture of you under her pillow. She whispers your name when she thinks I'm asleep. She said Daddy went away to build a castle for us."
Ethan turned his head slowly to Rosa. The timeline clicked in his brain with terrifying accuracy. Four years ago—before the Forbes cover, before the billions, back when he was a broke college graduate living in a tiny apartment in Atlanta.
He remembered the gentle nursing student who lived next door. The girl named Rosa who used to bring him home-cooked meals when he forgot to eat. The girl he had fallen deeply, passionately in love with—until the night she vanished without a trace, leaving behind a cleared-out apartment and a blocked phone number.
He had searched for her for two years. Eventually, brokenhearted, he moved to Nashville, built his empire, and let his mother persuade him into a high-society arrangement with Vivian.

"Rosa..." Ethan choked out, his chest heaving as he wept openly in front of his wealthy peers. "It was you? You were here the whole time?"
"You... you never looked at me, Ethan," Rosa sobbed, holding her daughter close. "You were always looking at your papers, your phone. And when you brought her home... I knew I didn't belong in your world anymore. I just wanted to be near you. I just wanted our daughter to have a safe roof over her head."
