Chapter 6 - The Return of the GhostThe heavy double doors at the back of the auditorium swung open wide once more.

A man stepped through.

He was in his late fifties, his hair completely silver, his face lined with deep, weathered wrinkles of decades spent living in hiding, hiding from hitmen, cartels, and his own flesh and blood. But as he stepped into the light of the aisle, I knew him instantly.

Jonah.

My brother. The man who had walked out of my life twenty-two years ago on a freezing November night, leaving three crying infants and a gas receipt on my doorstep.

The auditorium went dead silent. Even Thomas’s elite bodyguards lowered their submachine guns by a fraction of an inch, paralyzed by the sheer shock of seeing a ghost walk back among the living.

Jonah walked slowly down the aisle, his eyes fixed entirely on Thomas, who stood trembling like a cornered animal near the stage steps.

"Hello, brother," Jonah said, his voice deep, steady, and carrying the weight of a twenty-two-year nightmare.

Thomas spun around, his eyes wide with unadulterated panic, his hands shaking so violently he dropped the remote control onto the carpet. "Jonah...? No... you're dead! I watched them burn the cabin in Nova Scotia! I watched the fire!"

"I crawled out of the back window twenty seconds before the propane tank blew, Thomas," Jonah said, stopping ten feet away from him. He slowly unbuttoned his wool coat, revealing a heavy leather holster strapped across his chest—and pinned right beside it, an active badge bearing the gold seal of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

My jaw dropped so low it felt like it would unhinge.

The FBI?

Jonah wasn't a runaway coward who abandoned his kids out of fear. He was an undercover federal agent who had infiltrated Thomas’s inner circle at twenty-four years old, discovered his syndicate operations, and when Sarah was murdered to protect the conspiracy, he had faked his own death, grabbed his three infant daughters, and dumped them at the only safe place left on earth:

My doorstep.

He had trusted me. The only person in the world he knew would love them unconditionally, protect them with his life, and keep them completely off the grid while he spent two decades building an ironclad federal RICO case against his own brother.

"For twenty-two years, Thomas, I've watched you from the shadows," Jonah said, his eyes burning with cold, righteous fury. "I watched you build your empire on blood, extortion, and lies. I watched you pay off judges and senators. But you made one fatal mistake."

Jonah turned his head slightly, looking up at the stage where Emma, Chloe, and Mia stood arm-in-arm, tears streaming down their faces, looking down at their real father for the very first time in their lives.

"You underestimated what three brilliant, fearless young women—raised by the greatest man I have ever known—could accomplish when they decided to dig up the truth," Jonah finished, his voice cracking with emotion.

Before Thomas could reach for the pistol hidden inside his jacket, Jonah moved with blinding, tactical speed. He closed the distance, slammed Thomas face-first against the wooden edge of the stage, and slapped cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists with a sharp, metallic click.

"Thomas More, you are under federal arrest for racketeering, conspiracy, money laundering, and the first-degree murder of Sarah More," Jonah recited clearly into the quiet hall.

The four bodyguards didn't even raise their weapons. They dropped their submachine guns to the floor and raised their hands in instant surrender as six unmarked tactical units swarmed through the auditorium doors, securing the area in seconds.

The nightmare was over.
