Daniel let out a long, shuddering breath of pure relief, sinking heavily into one of the armchairs.
"Chloe..." Daniel whispered, looking up at me with profound awe. "How did you... when did you know?"

"The day she tried to ban Aunt Clara from the house," I replied, closing my briefcase with a satisfying click. "No real nurse isolates a patient from their family unless she has something to hide from the auditors."
Dr. Sterling walked over, placing a supportive hand on my shoulder. "Your father would have been proud, Chloe. He knew she was stealing from his accounts, but he wanted to make sure the legal trap was inescapable before we dropped the gate."
