CHAPTER 7: The Final Witness Came Out of Hiding

The orphanage was still burning when Detective Harris received an anonymous phone call.
He answered without speaking.
An old man's trembling voice whispered only one sentence.
"If you want the twins alive... come to Black Hollow Church before sunrise."
Then the line went dead.
No number.
No trace.
Nothing.
Emma immediately recognized the name.
Black Hollow Church had been abandoned for decades.
It was also the place where Lily and Rose had been baptized just weeks before the fire.
"No..." Emma whispered.
"He knows everything."
Just before dawn, Harris, Emma, Lily, and a small tactical team arrived at the ruined church.
The massive wooden doors were already open.
Candles burned inside.
Fresh candles.
Someone had prepared the place.
On the altar sat a single tape recorder.
Harris pressed PLAY.
A calm male voice filled the empty church.
"Only one person alive knows why the Carter twins were hunted."
"And today..."
"...he has decided to confess."
A hidden door behind the altar slowly creaked open.
An elderly priest stepped into the light.
His hands trembled so violently he could barely stand.
Emma gasped.
"Father Michael..."
Everyone believed he had died in the fire fourteen years earlier.
But he was alive.
Barely.
"I've been hiding ever since," he whispered.
"I was too afraid to tell the truth."
Lily stepped closer.
"Please..."
"Tell me why."
The old priest closed his eyes.
"Your mother wasn't an ordinary woman."
"She worked as a federal financial investigator."
"She uncovered a criminal organization that had secretly controlled politicians, judges, police officers, and billionaires for over thirty years."
"They called themselves..."
The Raven Circle.
The room fell silent.
"The black raven tattoo..."
Harris murmured.
"It wasn't just a gang."
"It was an empire."
Father Michael nodded.
"When Emma refused millions of dollars to destroy the evidence..."
"They marked her family for death."
"The explosion."
"The kidnapping."
"The fake adoption."
"It was all planned to erase every witness forever."
Emma burst into tears.
"I tried to protect my daughters..."
"But I only managed to save one."
The priest slowly reached into his robe.
He removed a tiny flash drive wrapped in cloth.
"I've protected this for fourteen years."
"It contains every name."
"Every payment."
"Every murder."
"The evidence that can destroy the Raven Circle forever."
Before Harris could take it—
A gunshot shattered the stained-glass window.
BANG!
The priest collapsed instantly.
Blood spread across the stone floor.
Emma screamed.
A laser sight swept across Lily's chest.
"GET DOWN!" Harris shouted.
Masked gunmen surrounded the church from every entrance.
At their center stood the man with the black raven tattoo.
For the first time...
He removed his mask.
Lily stared in disbelief.
She recognized him immediately.
It was Detective Harris's former partner.
The man everyone believed had died during the original investigation.
He smiled coldly.
"You've spent fourteen years looking for the monster..."
"...without realizing he was standing beside you the whole time."
Harris's face turned pale.
"You..."
"You were my mentor."
The man laughed.
"I trained you."
"I buried the evidence."
"I created the fire."
"And I raised Rose."
Lily felt the world collapse beneath her.
The man looked directly into her eyes.
"Your sister doesn't need saving."
"She believes I'm her father."
"And she's coming here now..."
"...to stop you."
In the distance...
The sound of a motorcycle echoed through the mountains.
A lone rider emerged from the morning fog.
Black helmet.
Black jacket.
Black gloves.
The rider stopped outside the burning church.
Slowly removed the helmet...
And Lily finally came face-to-face with her twin sister.
Rose looked exactly like her.
But instead of tears...
She pointed a pistol straight at Lily.
Then she spoke the words that shattered every hope of a happy reunion.
"Stay away from my father."
May you like
"Or the next bullet won't miss."
