CHAPTER 8: The Sister Who Chose the Enemy

Rose's finger rested calmly on the trigger.

The pistol never wavered.

Lily stared into the face that looked exactly like her own.

Same eyes.

Same smile.

Same tiny birthmark beneath the left ear.

Only one thing was different.

Rose's eyes were empty.

"You don't understand," Rose said coldly.

"He saved me."

"He raised me."

"He's my father."

Emma fell to her knees, sobbing.

"No, sweetheart..."

"I'm your mother."

Rose didn't even look at her.

"My mother died fourteen years ago."

"That's what he told me."

The Raven Circle leader placed a reassuring hand on Rose's shoulder.

"You see?" he smiled.

"Truth depends on who tells the story."

Detective Harris slowly reached for his weapon.

"Rose..."

"Listen to me."

But before he could finish—

BANG!

A bullet struck the floor inches from his foot.

Rose had fired the warning shot herself.

"Nobody moves."

The Raven leader began walking toward Lily.

"You've been asking the wrong question your entire life."

"You wanted to know why we kidnapped Rose."

He smiled.

"The real question is..."

"Why did we leave you behind?"

Lily felt her heart stop.

The man reached into his coat and removed another folder.

Inside were medical files.

DNA reports.

Hospital records.

He handed them to Lily.

At the top of every page was the same diagnosis.

Subject A: Lily Carter.

Subject B: Rose Carter.

Genetic compatibility: 100%.

Lily looked up.

"I don't understand."

The Raven leader's smile widened.

"You were never ordinary twins."

"You were born as part of a secret medical research program."

"The people funding it weren't interested in children."

"They wanted something much more valuable."

"Perfect genetic matches."

Emma shook her head violently.

"He's lying!"

"We volunteered for a harmless prenatal study!"

The man laughed.

"That's what they told you."

"The study wasn't about health."

"It was about creating genetically identical donors."

The church fell silent.

Rose looked confused for the first time.

"My entire life..."

"...was an experiment?"

The leader ignored her.

He pointed toward Lily.

"One twin was meant to disappear."

"The other was meant to survive."

"When Emma uncovered the truth..."

"She destroyed years of illegal research."

"So we erased everyone involved."

Suddenly...

The flash drive Father Michael had protected for fourteen years began blinking.

Detective Harris picked it up.

"It still works."

He plugged it into a nearby laptop inside the church office.

Hundreds of classified files appeared.

Bank transfers.

Secret laboratories.

Names of powerful investors.

Then one video file automatically opened.

Recorded fourteen years earlier.

Emma appeared on screen.

She was younger.

Terrified.

Holding both newborn twins.

"If you're watching this..."

"It means they finally found us."

She looked directly into the camera.

"The Raven Circle doesn't want my daughters because of what they know."

"They want them because of what they are."

Emma lifted the blankets.

On each baby's wrist was a tiny barcode.

"They were born carrying evidence inside their own DNA."

"The research wasn't completed."

"And without both girls..."

"The project can never be finished."

The recording suddenly ended.

For the first time...

Even Rose stepped away from the Raven leader.

"You lied to me."

"You said they abandoned me."

The man remained perfectly calm.

"I gave you a purpose."

"I made you strong."

"You should be thanking me."

Rose lowered her pistol.

Tears filled her eyes.

Everything she had believed for fourteen years collapsed in seconds.

The Raven leader sighed.

"Very disappointing."

He slowly pulled a remote control from his pocket.

"You've all become... unnecessary."

He pressed the button.

A deafening alarm echoed beneath the church.

Detective Harris's face turned white.

"There are explosives under the foundation!"

Red lights began flashing throughout the building.

A computerized voice counted down.

"Self-destruct sequence activated."

"Five minutes remaining."

As everyone rushed toward the exit...

The massive church doors slammed shut automatically.

Locked.

Steel barriers dropped over every window.

They weren't trapped by accident.

The entire church had been built as a tomb.

And somewhere beneath the floor...

A hidden vault slowly began opening...

Revealing the darkest secret the Raven Circle had protected for decades.
