Chapter 10 - A New LegacySix months later, the rain tapped steadily against the fogged glass of the old neighborhood coffee shop.

Inside, the air smelled of roasted espresso beans, fresh pastry crusts, and warm cinnamon. The cracked black-and-white tiles near the pastry case had been repaired, though the brass edges of the small round tables remained comfortably worn by years of elbows, newspapers, and quiet conversations.
At his usual table near the window sat Edward Blake.
He wasn’t reading financial reports. He wasn’t answering calls from Wall Street. Across from him sat Claire, laughing softly as she sketched a design in a leather-bound notebook. And sitting right beside them, swinging her legs on a red vinyl chair and devouring a massive slice of double-chocolate cake with extra fudge frosting, was Maya.
The silver bell above the door chimed.

Edward looked up from his cup of mild roast black coffee. He glanced across the table at his daughter, then down at his granddaughter, whose face was smeared happily with chocolate frosting.
For the first time in sixty-two years, Edward Blake didn't feel like a king trapped in a fortress.

And as he reached across the table to wipe a smudge of chocolate from Maya’s cheek, he knew that some fortunes weren’t measured in gold, stocks, or steel—but in the sweet, impossible grace of a second chance.
