Chapter 9 - The Boardroom CoupTwo weeks later, the glass-and-steel monolith of Blake Global Headquarters on Wall Street hummed with nervous energy.

In the executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor, twenty-two members of the board of directors sat in dead silence around a massive mahogany table. At the head of the table sat Arthur Vance, holding a thick stack of legal documents.

The heavy double doors swung open.

Every head turned.

Edward Blake walked in. But he wasn’t wearing his usual charcoal business suit. He wore a simple navy blazer, his posture relaxed, his face carrying a look of profound, terrifying calm.

And walking right beside him, holding his hand, was Claire—dressed in a sharp, elegant emerald-green pantsuit, her chestnut hair falling in smooth waves past her shoulders. Behind them walked Maya, wearing a brand-new yellow coat, cheerfully eating a square of chocolate cake out of a gold-trimmed porcelain plate.

Arthur Vance cleared his throat, standing up nervously.

“Edward,” Arthur said, his voice echoing in the vast room. “The board has reviewed your emergency asset transfers. As legal counsel, I must warn you that handing over majority voting shares to an outside trust—and appointing an unproven successor with zero corporate experience—constitutes a breach of fiduciary duty. We have the votes. We are officially invoking Article Nine to strip you of your executive authority.”

A murmur of agreement rippled through the board members. Several senior executives smirked, leaning back in their leather chairs, ready to finalize the hostile takeover they had been secretly plotting for months.

Edward didn’t flinch. He walked slowly to the head of the table, pulled out the central leather chair, and gestured for Claire to sit down.

Claire did not hesitate. She sat down, folded her hands on the mahogany table, and looked around the room, her dark eyes flashing with the exact same unyielding intelligence that had once made her grandfather a legend.

“You’re welcome to invoke Article Nine, Arthur,” Claire said, her voice clear, steady, and cutting through the room like cold glass.

Arthur frowned. “Miss Blake, you have no legal standing here—s—"

“Correction, Mr. Vance,” Claire interrupted smoothly, sliding a single sheet of paper across the polished mahogany toward him. “As of 9:00 AM this morning, the trust established in my daughter Maya’s name doesn’t just hold a passive stake in Blake Global. Through a series of rapid-acquisition debt purchases executed over the last fourteen days—funded entirely by my father’s personal liquidation—Maya Enterprises now holds fifty-one point two percent of voting common stock.”

The color drained entirely from Arthur Vance’s face. He snatched up the paper, his eyes scanning the legal seals and signatures at the bottom. His hands began to shake violently.

“This… this is impossible,” Arthur stammered, looking wildly around the room at the pale, terrified faces of the board members. “You… you can’t just buy out the controlling block overnight!”

“My father taught me how to recognize a failing institution built on rotting foundations,” Claire said softly, a faint, dangerous smile touching her lips as she leaned forward, resting her chin on her hands. “And gentlemen? Your golden cage just collapsed.”
