Chapter 3 - Homeless in the Rain

Hook: From a $22 million necklace to sleeping on a park bench, Chloe’s fall from grace was televised. But the wolves forgot one thing: she built the empire.

Twelve hours later, a torrential downpour hit the city.

Chloe stood on the sidewalk outside Vanderbilt Tower, holding a single cardboard box containing a few personal photos and her late father’s fountain pen. Her credit cards were declined, her bank accounts locked under federal investigation, and her penthouse apartment seized.

Across the street, a massive digital billboard flashed the breaking news: VANDERBILT HEIRESS CHLOE VANCE ACCUSED OF MERCILESS FRAUD; UNCLE JULIAN VANCE TAKES CONTROL.

A sleek black Mercedes pulled up to the curb, splashing muddy water all over Chloe’s khaki jacket. The window rolled down to reveal Vanessa, sipping champagne.

"Oh, look at the big, bad billionaire now," Vanessa mocked, tilting her glass so a drop of champagne fell into the rain. "Karma is a beautiful thing, Chloe. I bought your penthouse at the auction this afternoon. I’m going to throw out all your father's old antiques. They smell like old money... and you smell like trash."

Richard sat in the driver's seat, laughing hysterically. "Thanks for the $50 million loan proposal, by the way! Julian just approved it. The Crimson Towers will be built, and you'll be watching it from the gutter!"

They drove off, laughing, leaving Chloe drenched in the cold rain.

Chloe walked for miles until she reached a quiet, dimly lit alleyway behind a closed-down, dilapidated building. This wasn't just any building; it was her father’s very first jewelry workshop, abandoned twenty years ago. She pulled an old brass key from her pocket—the only asset the lawyers had missed because it was listed under a dummy corporation she created when she was sixteen.

She unlocked the rusty door and stepped inside. The air was thick with dust and the smell of old metal.

As she sat on a wooden stool, shivering from the cold, she opened her box. She pulled out her father’s fountain pen. She unscrewed the cap. Inside the barrel wasn't ink. It was a micro-SD card.

Chloe’s eyes flashed with a dangerous, brilliant light. "You think you won, Julian? You think you can use my father's company to launder money for the international syndicate? You just walked right into my trap."
