Chapter 5 - THE FIVE KEYS

"Victor!" Marcus Vance’s voice boomed through the external intercom system of the safehouse. "Open the doors. Don't make this difficult. We only want the girl."
Victor stood in the control room, his hands flying across his holographic keyboard. He activated the automated defense turrets hidden within the cliffside, but as he initiated the firing sequence, a red warning box flashed across his screen:
ACCESS DENIED. FIRING PROTOCOLS OVERRIDDEN BY EXECUTIVE CHANNELS.
"Damn it," Victor growled. Vance had built-in backdoors to Nexus Tech’s military-grade software. He had anticipated every move Victor could make.
Vance’s voice returned, closer now, just outside the heavy reinforced glass of the living room. "You think you're a genius, Victor, but you're just a legacy project. Your father and I spent fifteen years building the architecture of the new world. Did you really think we would let a twenty-year-old boy keep the keys to the kingdom?"
Victor walked out of the control room and into the main living space, standing before the massive glass wall that separated him from Vance and his small army.
Vance looked older than he did on TV, his eyes hollowed out by greed. He held a small, silver remote control—the master override for the safehouse’s life-support systems.
"The Cabal of the Five Keys has waited eight years for the neural code to mature," Vance said, tapping the glass with the muzzle of his sidearm. "With Isabel’s half and your half, we can initiate the Great Reset. Every debt, every asset, every national reserve on this planet will be consolidated under our ledger. We will be more than billionaires, Victor. We will be gods."
"You killed my parents," Victor said, his voice deadly quiet.
"They wanted to back out," Vance shrugged. "They grew soft. They looked at you and the girl and saw children. We looked at you and saw the future. Now, open the door, or I will depressurize this entire facility and let you both suffocate."
Behind Victor, the door to the medical wing opened.
Isabel walked out. She looked frail, but her eyes were bright, burning with an unnatural intensity.
"He’s telling the truth, Victor," she said, her voice echoing softly in the room. "The code is fully active now. I can feel his thoughts. He has the decryption terminal in his transport."
"Isabel, get back," Victor warned.
"No," she said, taking his hand.
The moment her fingers locked with his, a massive jolt of energy surged through Victor’s body. It wasn't painful this time. It was like a cold, rushing river of pure clarity.
The amnesia broke completely.
He remembered everything. The equations. The algorithms. The names of all five members of the Cabal. The exact digital signatures of their hidden offshore accounts.
He looked at Vance through the glass, a slow, terrifying smile spreading across his face.

"You wanted the keys, Marcus?" Victor said, his voice echoing with a strange, double-layered resonance as he spoke in perfect unison with Isabel.
"We're going to give them to you."
