Chapter 8 - THE SUNSHINE IN THE RAIN

One year later.

The rain fell soft and steady over the city, turning the streets into a canvas of grey and gold.

Outside a small, brightly lit bookstore on the corner of 5th and Elm, a young man stood under a black umbrella. He wore a simple canvas jacket and worn jeans. His face was familiar—the kind of face people felt they had seen on a magazine cover once, a long time ago—but his expression was entirely different.

His eyes were quiet, peaceful, and completely free of the cold, calculating weight of a billionaire.

His name was Victor. He didn't remember his last name. He didn't remember Nexus Tech, or the billions of dollars that had vanished from his accounts, or the secret cabal that had crumbled into obscurity after their global financial network was permanently shattered.

He only knew he liked the smell of old books, the sound of the rain, and the quiet job he had found at the local library.

The bell above the bookstore door chimed.

A young girl walked out. She was eleven years old, dressed in a warm yellow raincoat, her dark hair bouncing around her shoulders. She held a backpack full of schoolbooks.

She stopped when she saw him.

A brilliant, beautiful smile spread across her face.

"Hey, Victor!" she called out, running under his umbrella.

Victor smiled down at her, a deep, warmth blooming in his chest—a feeling he couldn't explain, but one he knew he had spent his whole life waiting for.

"Hey, Isabel," he said, taking her hand. "Ready to go home?"

She squeezed his hand tight.

"Yes," she said, looking up into his clear, peaceful eyes. "Let's go home."

They walked down the street together, two souls who had lost the world, but had finally found each other in the rain.
