Chapter 15 - The Council’s VerdictThe sun rose over the Sicilian coastline, painting the sky in violent shades of orange and blood-red.

In the subterranean stone vault beneath Villa Rinaldi—a room carved out of solid rock centuries ago for secret tribunals—the fifty syndicate elders sat in absolute, tense silence.

At the center of the stone floor stood Don Salvatore, his hands bound behind his back, his face bruised and swollen from a brief, extremely unpleasant conversation with Victor’s enforcers.

Victor and Serena walked down the stone steps side by side. They weren't dressed in casual resort wear; they wore matching sharp black coats, moving with the terrifying, synchronized weight of an unstoppable dynasty.

Uncle Mateo sat at the head of the stone tribunal table, banging a heavy iron gavel once against the rock.

“The charge is treason,” Mateo announced, his voice echoing off the damp stone walls. “Attempting to assassinate the lawful heirs and the matriarch of the house of Rinaldi under the cover of night.”

Salvatore snarled, glaring wildly at Serena. “She is an outsider! She has no blood in her! She’s turning our traditions into a daycare center!”

Serena stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the ancient stone floor. She stopped two feet away from Salvatore, looking down at him with an expression of profound, chilling pity.

“Tradition isn't about bloodlines and shadows, Salvatore,” Serena said, her voice cutting through the vault like a knife. “Tradition is about survival, strength, and protecting the people who depend on you. You couldn't protect your own pride, so you resorted to sneaking around in the dark like a coward.”

She turned to Uncle Mateo and the assembly of elders.

“The old world is dead,” Serena declared, raising her voice so it reached every corner of the stone vault. “If the Rinaldi syndicate wants to survive the next century, it needs to stop hiding in the past and start building a future that can't be shattered by petty cowards.”

Silence hung in the vault for five long, suffocating seconds.

Then, slowly, Uncle Mateo raised his heavy iron gavel.

“Guilty,” Mateo pronounced coldly. “Sentence: internal exile, effective immediately. Take him to the cargo ship bound for South America.”

Two massive enforcers grabbed Salvatore by the shoulders and dragged him screaming out of the vault, his desperate pleas fading into the stone corridors until the heavy iron doors slammed shut with a final, echoing thud.

Uncle Mateo stood up, walked over to Serena, and bowed his head slightly in deep, absolute reverence.

“The house of Rinaldi,” Mateo said clearly, “is officially yours.”
