Chapter 3 - THE SAFE HOUSE OF SECRETS

Facebook Hook Title: 💔 "MOMMY, IS THAT LADY IN THE PICTURE HIS MAGGIE?" THE SINGLE MOM ENTERS THE BILLIONAIRE’S INNER SANCTUM... AND UNCOVERS A SHOCKING PHOTO! 💔Elliot’s penthouse was a fortress of glass, steel, and minimalist design high above the city skyline. It was cold, sterile, and entirely devoid of the warmth that Margaret had once brought to his life.
While Noah was setup in the media room with a hot chocolate and a movie—guarded by two of Elliot’s most trusted security personnel—Elliot and Clara sat in the expansive study. A state-of-the-art computer terminal projected Aaron Bennett’s recovered files into the air as holographic documents.
Elliot stared at the engineering schematics. His eyes scanned the digital signatures.
"This is Aaron’s handwriting," Clara said, pointing to a scanned PDF. "See the little star he draws in the corner of his initials? He did that on everything. It was a joke for Noah."
Elliot wasn't looking at the star. He was looking at the authorization code at the bottom of the rejection sheet.
"This rejection sheet was logged in our system," Elliot muttered, his voice dropping to a dangerous register. "But it was overwritten. The system shows it was approved by a user profile... labeled 'M.G.'"
Clara gasped. "Margaret? But... why would your wife approve a broken boat that she was boarding?"
"She wouldn't," Elliot growled, slamming his fist onto the mahogany desk. "Margaret didn't even have access to the engineering portal. Someone used her credentials to frame her as the negligent party, ensuring that if the boat went down, the blame would fall on her charity foundation—and her."
"But why?" Clara asked, stepping closer to him. "Why kill her? She was your wife. She was the heart of the company's public image."
"Because Margaret had discovered that Grayson Harbor Group wasn't just shipping charity goods," a sharp, aristocratic voice interrupted from the doorway.
Both Elliot and Clara spun around.
Standing in the double doors of the study was Victoria Grayson, Elliot’s mother. She was dressed in a flawless Chanel suit, her silver hair styled perfectly, her eyes cold as diamonds. Behind her stood Richard Vance, the handsome, smooth-talking COO of Grayson Harbor Group.
"Mother," Elliot said, his voice laced with warning. "How did you get past my security?"
"I own the building, Elliot," Victoria said smoothly, walking into the room and casting a disdainful look at Clara’s wet boots and faded jeans. "And I see you've brought a... charity case into your home. Along with her child. Really, Elliot, this is beneath you."
"Victoria, please," Richard Vance said, offering a patronizing smile. He stepped forward, holding out a leather folder. "Elliot, we have a crisis. The Charleston deal is leaking. There are rumors of a federal investigation into our maritime logistics. We need you to sign these papers to consolidate our assets before the SEC freezes anything."
Clara looked at Richard. Her breath caught in her throat.
"You," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Richard’s eyes flicked to Clara, his smile faltering for a fraction of a second. "Do I know you, young lady?"
May you like
"You came to my house," Clara said, her voice rising in pitch as she took a step backward, grabbing Elliot’s sleeve. "Two days after Aaron died. You wore a gray suit. You told me if I ever spoke to the papers about Aaron’s reports, Noah would never make it to his eighth birthday."
Elliot’s world went red.
