Chapter 4 - CHESS WITH MONSTERS

Facebook Hook Title: 🔥 THE BILLIONAIRE’S MOTHER DROPS A BOMB! "YOU WILL SIGN THE PAPERS, OR THE BOY DIES." THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL! 🔥The silence in the study was absolute, broken only by the hum of the holographic projector.
Elliot stepped between Clara and Richard, his stature towering over his COO. "Is this true, Richard?"
"Elliot, don't be ridiculous," Richard laughed, though a bead of sweat broke out on his temple. "This woman is clearly unstable. She’s a grieving widow looking for a payday. She probably targeted you at the cemetery. It’s a classic shake-up."
"She didn't target me," Elliot said, his voice terrifyingly calm. "I targeted her. Or rather, fate did. And you just walked into my home and confirmed everything she just said."
Victoria clicked her tongue. "Elliot, sit down. You are making a scene in front of the help."
"The help?" Elliot spun on his mother. "Mother, did you know about this? Did you know Richard threatened a widow and her child?"
Victoria did not flinch. She walked over to the bar, poured herself two fingers of scotch, and took a slow sip. "Margaret was a liability, Elliot. She was soft. She wanted to open our shipping manifests to public scrutiny. Do you have any idea what would happen to Grayson Harbor Group if the world found out we were transport partners for certain... international cartels?"
Elliot felt a cold sweat break out on his neck. "What did you say?"
"We don't just ship charity blankets, Elliot," Victoria said, her eyes dead and cold. "We ship high-value cargo. Precious metals, unregistered tech, things that require... discreet channels. Margaret found out. She was going to go to the federal authorities. She was going to destroy this family's legacy."
"So you killed her," Elliot whispered, his heart breaking for the second time, but this time, the pieces turned to glass. "Your own daughter-in-law."
"I did what was necessary to protect the name," Victoria said coldly. "And Richard cleared the path. Unfortunately, this woman's husband, Aaron, became an obstacle. He wouldn't take the money. He wanted to play the hero."
Richard pulled a small, silver silencer from his inner jacket pocket, his polite demeanor completely dissolving. "And now, Elliot, you are going to sign the Charleston merger. Because if you don't, Mr. Vance here is going to have to make a very tragic call to the media room where your security team has already been... neutralized."
Clara screamed. "Noah!"
"Don't move!" Richard snapped, aiming the gun directly at Clara’s chest. "One sound, and I shoot her first, Elliot. Then we go down to the media room. It’s a very high balcony. Children fall from balconies all the time. It’s a tragedy."
Elliot stood frozen. For all his wealth, all his power, he was completely powerless against a piece of lead and the cold-blooded greed of his own flesh and blood.
"What do you want?" Elliot asked, his voice shaking.
"Sign the merger," Victoria commanded, tossing the leather folder onto the desk. "Yield full operational control of the shipping division to Richard. Then, you and this little girl can take her son and disappear. Go live on your boat. Oh, wait, you hate that boat, don't you? What a shame."
Clara looked at Elliot, tears streaming down her face. "Elliot, don't let them hurt my baby. Please. I don't care about the truth anymore. Just save Noah."

Elliot looked at Clara. In her eyes, he didn't see defeat; he saw the absolute, unconditional love of a mother willing to burn the world to save her child. It was the same love Maggie had shown when she boarded that boat, knowing the risks but wanting to help others anyway.
"Alright," Elliot said, reaching for the platinum pen on his desk. "I’ll sign."
