Chapter 2 - The Death KnellInside Ashford’s Diner, a suffocating silence had fallen.

Old Ray still lay motionless near a table leg, blood seeping into the worn carpet. Gina trembled as she clutched her phone tightly, tears streaming down her face, too terrified to make a sound.

Veronica Whitmore laughed coldly, stepping closer to the table and tossing a glass of water straight onto Old Ray's face to see if he was still conscious. "Stubborn old fool. Not dead yet?"

"Darling, don't waste your energy on these lowlifes," Preston Whitmore III said lazily, taking a sip of his vintage wine. "They aren't even worth dirtying your hands."

Brock Harding casually pressed the toe of his boot against the neck of Caesar—the dying Mastiff—with an expression of utter disgust. "Get this useless piece of garbage out of here and throw it in a dumpster. Tomorrow, this diner's getting bulldozed for the mall's parking lot anyway."

Right at that moment, an engine roar ripped through the street outside, freezing the blood in Brock and Preston's veins: a deafening chorus of heavy-displacement motorcycle and superbike engines, accompanied by the sharp screech of tires slamming to a halt right in front of the diner.
