Chapter 3 - Unmasking the Twisted BetrayalI didn't sleep that night. Operating on pure rage and adrenaline, I checked myself out of the hospital against medical advice at 4:00 AM, accompanied by Marcus, who had refused to leave my side.

"Where are we going?" Marcus asked as we stepped out into the crisp morning air.

"To my grandmother's estate," I said, my voice cold as ice. "If my mother and sister want to play a game of legal theft and psychological warfare, I'm going to turn their board upside down."

Grandmother Evelyn had passed away six months ago. In her will, she had left her historic estate and a multi-million-dollar trust to her 'firstborn grandchild.' Because Emily and I were twins born via C-section, our mother had always claimed Emily was born two minutes before me.

For twenty-six years, I had accepted that story without question.

We arrived at the gates of the old Brooks manor in the historic district. Using the spare key Grandmother had secretly given me months before she died, I slipped through the side entrance and headed straight for her private study in the basement—a room my parents had been locked out of due to a complex digital vault system.

Grandmother Evelyn had always warned me: "Sarah, your mother loves power, not people. Keep your eyes open when I'm gone."

I entered the master security code on the brass keypad. The heavy mahogany door clicked open.

Inside, resting on top of the antique oak desk, was a thick leather-bound journal and a sealed yellow envelope stamped with the seal of the North Carolina State Registrar.

I opened the envelope with trembling hands. Inside were two official birth certificates from Saint Jude Memorial Hospital dated twenty-six years ago.

I stared at the time of birth printed on the documents:

Sarah Elizabeth Brooks: 11:42 PM

Emily Victoria Brooks: 11:58 PM

I wasn't the younger twin. I was the firstborn.

I was the rightful primary beneficiary of Grandmother's entire $2.5 million estate and the sole controller of the Brooks Family Foundation.

My mother had lied to me my entire life, forcing me into the role of the sacrificial younger sister so she could siphon Grandmother's wealth into Emily's hands. And when I turned twenty-six—the age of trust disbursement—they needed a way to prove I was legally incompetent so I could never claim my rightful inheritance.

The fake pregnancy. The forced drugging. The staged public breakdown in the pool. It was all a meticulously crafted plot to declare me insane and lock me away in a private psychiatric facility while they seized control of the millions.

Suddenly, the silent alarm on the desk flared bright red.

Heavy footsteps echoed down the grand hallway above.

"Search the basement!" my father's voice boomed from the top of the stairs. "She's here! Break down the doors if you have to!"
