Chapter 9 - The Final ReckoningThree months later.

The snow had melted away completely, replaced by the vibrant green lawns and blooming cherry blossoms of spring.

The trial had been swift, devastating, and entirely one-sided. Armed with the forensic audits, the unedited perimeter security footage, and the ironclad trust documents, the prosecution left Eleanor and Paige's public defender with zero room for defense.

Eleanor was sentenced to twelve years in a federal penitentiary for grand larceny, forgery, and criminal endangerment resulting in severe bodily harm. Paige received eight years for her active participation in the conspiracy and abuse.

Today was the final probate hearing to officially dissolve any remaining legal ties between the estate and my incarcerated relatives.

I stood beside Hannah on the grand front porch of the estate. She was glowing, her baby bump now proudly visible beneath a flowing summer dress, the sunlight catching the cinnamon scent in her dark hair as a gentle breeze drifted across the porch.

A black sedan pulled up the driveway, and Mason Ward stepped out, holding a clean, pristine leather folder. He walked up the steps with a satisfied grin.

"It's officially done," Mason announced, holding out the folder. "The judge signed the final decree thirty minutes ago. All residual assets, trust holdings, and secondary properties are now fully and permanently secured under your name, with Hannah as co-trustee."

I took the folder, flipping it open to reveal the official seal of the state court. The name Eleanor Sterling had been legally expunged from every deed, account, and asset associated with the family legacy.

"Thank you, Mason," I said, shaking his hand firmly. "For everything."

"Just doing my job, Captain," Mason smiled, glancing warmly at Hannah. "And congratulations on the upcoming addition to the family. The nursery looks incredible."

As Mason drove away, I wrapped my arms around Hannah from behind, resting my hands gently over her growing stomach. She leaned back against my chest, letting out a contented sigh as we watched the sun dip slowly below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber.
