Chapter 5 - Dawn of ReckoningThe sun rose over Cedar Grove Estate in a blaze of amber and gold, painting the sky like a Renaissance painting. It was Saturday—the day of the Vance-Sterling wedding of the century.

By 8:00 AM, luxury sedans and vintage Rolls-Royces began lining up at the security gates. Three hundred of the city’s elite, high-society figures, business tycoons, and distant relatives had flown in from across the country to witness the union of Julian Vance and Chloe Sterling.

Inside the bride's dressing suite, hair dryers hummed and champagne corks popped.

"Where is the photographer?" Chloe snapped, tapping her manicured fingernails against a vanity table. "He’s supposed to be capturing the prep shots!"

"He’s outside," a junior assistant said nervously, peeking through the blinds. "Along with... well, the entire catering staff."

"Well, bring them in!" Julian barked, stepping into the bridal suite in his bespoke midnight-blue velvet tuxedo. He looked every bit the dashing prince—if princes were funded by exploited older sisters. "Where’s Mom and Dad?"

"They're arriving at the main gate now," Chloe beamed, adjusting her Vera Wang veil in the mirror. "Oh, Julian, look at us. We actually pulled it off. We beat the system."

Just then, the heavy oak doors of the grand hallway swung open.

Not with a gentle knock, but with the steady, resounding echo of heavy heels clicking against marble.

One. Two. Three.

Every head in the bridal suite turned.

There I stood. I wasn't wearing a bridesmaid dress. I wasn't wearing a humble black suit. I wore a tailored, ice-white blazer dress that screamed executive power, paired with crimson Christian Louboutins and diamond drop earrings that outshone anything Chloe was wearing.

For a second, the room went dead silent. You could hear the distant chirping of birds outside.

Julian’s jaw dropped. The glass of champagne in his hand slipped, shattering against the Persian rug with a sharp crack.
