Chapter 8 - THE SUN OVER THE CASCADESThree days later.

The storm had finally passed, leaving the Cascade Mountains draped in a pristine, blinding blanket of pure white snow. The morning sun broke through the clouds, bathing the glass mansion in golden light.

Nathan stood in the grand living room of his estate. The broken glass had been replaced; the fire crackled warmly in the hearth.

He was dressed in simple clothes, without his surgeon’s coat or expensive watch. His lawyers had cleared him of all criminal charges within forty-eight hours—Sarah’s detailed ledger had explicitly proven that Nathan’s signature had been forged and that he was entirely innocent of the cartel's operations.

Victor Vance and Marcus Kane were facing life sentences in federal maximum-security prison without the possibility of parole.

The sound of soft giggles drifted from the hallway.

Rosa walked into the room carrying two warm bottles. Behind her, holding her hand, was Lily.

She wore a soft wool sweater, her cheeks red with healthy color, her bright green eyes clear and full of life. In the cribs near the fireplace, Owen and Ethan were fast asleep, fully recovered and gaining weight.

Lily walked slowly across the plush rug toward Nathan. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the old silver bracelet.

"Uncle Nathan?" she asked softly. "Is Mommy coming back?"

Nathan felt a lump form in his throat. He knelt down so he was at eye-level with the little girl who had walked through hell to save her family.

He reached out and gently wrapped his hand around hers, closing her fingers around the silver bracelet.

"No, sweetheart," Nathan said softly, his voice thick with authentic emotion. "Mommy can't come back. But she gave me this bracelet so I would never forget who I am again."

Lily looked at him intently. "Who are you?"

Nathan pulled the tiny girl into a tight, warm embrace, wrapping his arms around her just as she had wrapped hers around her baby brothers in the storm.

"I'm your uncle," Nathan whispered, tears falling freely down his face. "And I'm never, ever going to let you go."

Lily rested her head against his shoulder, letting out a long, peaceful sigh.

Outside, the sun rose over the peaks, melting the ice from the trees, illuminating a home that was no longer empty—a house made of glass, finally filled with love, truth, and light
