CHAPTER 2 — THE CAMERA CAPTURED THE IMPOSSIBLE

Rachel arrived at the morgue before sunrise. The building was still silent, its long corridors illuminated only by dim emergency lights. Her heart pounded as she locked herself inside the storage room and inserted the tiny memory card from the hidden camera into her laptop.
The recording began.
For nearly two hours, nothing happened.
Emily lay perfectly still on the stainless-steel table, exactly as Rachel had left her. The room remained quiet except for the humming refrigeration units.
Rachel almost convinced herself she had imagined everything.
Then, at exactly 2:17 a.m., the image changed.
Emily's right hand twitched.
Rachel leaned closer to the screen.
Another finger moved.
Then another.
A slow breath lifted the bride's chest.
Rachel's blood ran cold.
Emily wasn't dead.
Over the next several minutes, the young woman struggled as if trapped inside her own body. Her eyelids trembled. Tiny tears rolled down the corners of her closed eyes.
Suddenly...
Her eyes opened.
They stared directly at the ceiling.
Wide.
Terrified.
She couldn't move.
She couldn't scream.
Only her eyes darted desperately around the room.
Rachel covered her mouth to stop herself from crying.
"She's alive..."
But before Emily could even sit up, the camera captured something far worse.
The morgue door slowly opened.
No alarm sounded.
A man wearing a black hood and medical gloves walked inside as though he had been there many times before.
Rachel froze.
He wasn't a doctor.
He wasn't hospital staff.
The stranger calmly approached Emily.
Without saying a word, he injected another clear liquid into the IV line that had been left in her arm.
Within seconds, Emily's struggling stopped.
Her eyes slowly closed again.
Her heartbeat appeared to weaken.
The hooded man gently adjusted the wedding veil over her face before quietly leaving the room.
Rachel replayed the footage three times.
Every detail was unmistakable.
Someone had entered the morgue to make sure Emily stayed "dead."
Shaking, Rachel rushed to the security office.
"I need last night's hallway footage."
The security guard frowned.
"There isn't any."
"What do you mean?"
"The cameras were offline between two and three in the morning."
"All of them?"
He nodded.
"Power failure."
Rachel's stomach tightened.
She knew it wasn't a coincidence.
Someone inside the hospital had erased every trace.
That afternoon, while pretending to organize medical files, Rachel secretly reviewed Emily's records.
One page caught her attention.
A toxicology report had already been completed.
But something was wrong.
The report listed an extremely rare neurotoxin capable of slowing the heartbeat until it became almost undetectable.
Below the diagnosis was another document.
Someone had crossed it out with black marker.
Rachel carefully held the page toward the light.
Beneath the ink, she could still make out several words.
"Patient shows minimal cardiac activity..."
Minimal cardiac activity.
Someone had seen signs of life.
Someone had hidden them.
Rachel immediately copied the file.
Just as she slipped it into her pocket, she heard footsteps behind her.
The chief pathologist stood silently in the doorway.
He smiled.
A slow...
Cold...
Unnatural smile.
"I thought I told you to stop asking questions."
Rachel suddenly realized something horrifying.
May you like
The danger had never been inside the morgue.
It had been standing beside her all along.
