Chapter 5 - THE ULTIMATUM

The morning sun cast a harsh, unforgiving light across the manicured lawns of Belle Meade.

By 8:00 AM, the viral video had amassed over 45 million views globally. Headlines across The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and international tabloids screamed variations of the same devastating story: THE GARDEN HOSE BILLIONAIRE: HOW A CRUEL PRANK DESTROYED AN EMPIRE.

Vanessa Vance was no longer a prominent society debutante; she was public enemy number one on social media, the face of toxic elite entitlement. Her social media accounts had been flooded with millions of hateful comments, forcing her to deactivate every single profile before sunrise.

Inside the grand sunroom of the mansion, the atmosphere was thick with the smell of stale coffee and absolute despair.

Richard, Vanessa, and Mrs. Vance sat on the cream-colored linen sofa, looking like refugees from a war zone. Standing opposite them were Ethan and me, flanked by two armed corporate security guards and our legal team.

I set my teacup down on the saucer with a sharp, echoing clink.

"Here are your options," I announced, breaking the heavy silence.

Vanessa flinched, looking up with red, swollen eyes. Her voice was barely a rasp. "Please... just tell us what we have to do."

"Option one," I said calmly, holding up one finger. "You fight the federal embezzlement charges in court. Arthur estimates a conviction rate of ninety-eight percent, resulting in a minimum sentence of twelve to fifteen years in federal prison for Richard, while the civil lawsuits from duped investors strip you of every remaining asset down to your wedding rings."

Mrs. Vance gasped, burying her face in her hands and sobbing hysterically.

"And option two?" Richard asked hoarsely, his voice trembling.

I held up a second finger.

"Option two," I continued, leaning forward slightly. "You sign an immediate, irrevocable confession admitting to corporate malfeasance, asset concealment, and conspiracy to commit securities fraud. You hand over all remaining controlling shares of Vance Industries to the Carter Foundation for liquid asset distribution to charity. And finally..."

I paused, letting my gaze drift slowly over Vanessa’s shattered, tear-stained face.

"...Vanessa signs a legally binding public confession and apology broadcasted live across national television, acknowledging her abusive conduct, and permanently leaves the country within forty-eight hours, with a strict restraining order barring her from ever approaching Ethan or myself again."

Vanessa’s jaw dropped. "Leave the country? Exile? You can't do that! That’s cruel! That’s inhuman!"

"Cruel?" I asked, my voice dropping an octave, carrying a chilling, razor-sharp edge. "Inhuman? You stood on that patio last night, laughing while you sprayed freezing water on a woman you believed had nothing, purely for your own amusement. You threatened to have me dragged off like an animal. You believed your wealth made you a god and everyone else disposable."

I stood up, towering over them with absolute authority.

"You wanted to play the queen of Belle Meade, Vanessa? Well, queens don't get second chances when they burn their own kingdom to the ground."

Richard looked at his daughter, then at the thick stack of legal documents Arthur pushed across the coffee table. He looked at the golden fountain pen resting beside them.

There was no fight left in him. There was no escape.

With trembling, broken fingers, Richard picked up the pen, signed his name to the confession, and handed it to his weeping daughter.

"Sign it, Vanessa," Richard whispered, a tear finally cutting a clean path down his dusty cheek. "It’s over."
