Chapter 3 - The Collapse of an Empire

The giant screens flickered with a brutal, unfiltered cascade of numbers and documents. Red warning labels flashed across the glowing displays: LIQUIDATION IN PROGRESS, ASSETS FROZEN, BANKRUPTCY DECLARED.
"No... NO! This is a fake! Deepfakes! Cyberattacks!" Victoria shrieked, lunging forward as if she could physically claw the screens down with her bare fingernails. Her designer shoes clicked frantically against the floor as she stumbled forward, tears of pure hysteria streaming down her powdered cheeks. "Alistair, you can't do this! My father’s company—our legacy—you can't just destroy it over a stupid old woman and a peasant maid!"
Alistair didn't even flinch. He slipped his phone back into his pocket with chilling casualness.
"Legacy?" Alistair’s voice cut through her shrieks like a razor blade. "Your father’s empire was built on houses of cards, offshore tax evasion, and predatory loans. For the past three years, Vance Corporation has been surviving solely on liquidity injections backed by Sterling Holdings as a courtesy to your grandfather. But my patience ran out this morning."
He took a slow step toward her, towering over the trembling socialite.
"At precisely 8:00 PM—two minutes before you walked into my ballroom—my legal team executed the final foreclosure notice," Alistair stated, his grey eyes piercing straight through her soul. "Every bank account your family owns has been seized. Your mansions in Malibu and Manhattan are already under court-appointed receivership. Your designer clothes, your luxury cars, your offshore accounts—frozen. As of right now, Victoria, you are legally, utterly, and permanently broke."
The ballroom was so quiet that the hum of the air conditioning sounded like a jet engine. The elite socialites who had laughed at Martha minutes ago now physically recoiled from Victoria, backing away as if her financial ruin were a contagious disease. Fair-weather friends who had praised her beauty and power moments ago suddenly found the patterns on the Persian rug deeply fascinating.
Victoria collapsed onto her knees, her expensive dress pooling in the dust. Her makeup ran in black streaks down her face. All the haughty entitlement, the vicious cruelty, the psychotic arrogance—it had all evaporated into thin air, leaving behind a pathetic, hollow shell of a human being.
"Please..." Victoria choked out, grabbing the hem of Alistair’s trousers, sobbing uncontrollably. "Please, Alistair... have mercy. I have nowhere to go. I don't know how to do anything! Please!"
Alistair slowly looked down at her, his expression devoid of an ounce of sympathy. He pulled his trousers gently from her grasp.
"Mercy?" Alistair asked quietly. "Did you show mercy when you mocked my mother for her age? Did you show mercy when you threatened to ruin Maya's life and throw her out on the street?"
Victoria opened her mouth, but no words came out. She choked on her own tears.
"You reap what you sow, Victoria," Alistair said flatly. Then, turning his gaze toward the back of the room, he raised his voice. "Security."
Two massive, stone-faced private security guards in tactical suits immediately stepped out from the shadows near the entrance.

"Get this trash out of my house," Alistair commanded. "And make sure she doesn't take a single thing that doesn't belong to her. Strip her of every piece of jewelry purchased with Sterling-backed funds."
"Yes, Mr. Sterling!" the guards barked in unison.
