Chapter 10 - Epilogue — The Breakfast TableOne year after the trial, I stood in the sunlit kitchen of my newly purchased coastal estate, overlooking the endless expanse of the blue ocean.

The morning breeze drifted through the wide-open sliding glass doors, carrying the scent of salt water and blooming jasmine.

I set a fresh ceramic mug of coffee down on the polished quartz breakfast island.

I looked at my reflection in the stainless-steel toaster oven. I looked calm, powerful, and utterly at peace.

There was no man sitting across from me demanding obedience. There was no threat of violence, no hidden financial trap, and no ticking time bomb of deceit.

There was only silence. And freedom.

My phone buzzed against the marble counter. It was a brief email from Rachel.

“Just letting you know, Tucker’s prison transfer went through today. Maximum security facility upstate. Melanie’s probation officer reported she skipped town and has a warrant out for her arrest. You won. Completely.”

I smiled softly, locked my phone, and set it down.

I lifted my coffee cup, took a deep, grounding sip, and whispered into the quiet morning air:

"Checkmate."
