Chapter 4 - The Legal Guillotine Falls

Mauricio’s hands shook so violently he almost dropped his phone.

"Who is at the door?" Valeria demanded, her voice rising in panic. "Mauricio, what is going on? What do you mean our accounts are frozen?"

"I don't know!" Mauricio shouted, his polished, arrogant demeanor completely shattering.

He ran down the grand staircase, Valeria trailing closely behind him. He opened the massive oak door.

Standing on the threshold was not a delivery driver, but a stern-looking court official in a dark suit, flanked by two armed police officers. Behind them, parked on the street, was a luxury black sedan.

"Are you Mauricio Montes?" the court official asked, his voice completely devoid of emotion.

"Yes, I am," Mauricio stammered. "What is the meaning of this?"

"I am a representative of the First Civil Court of Querétaro," the official said, handing Mauricio a thick, legal folder bound in blue paper. "You are hereby served with an official Notice of Revocation of Donation due to Ingratitude and Filial Abuse, pursuant to Article 2337 of the Civil Code."

Valeria pushed her way to the front. "This is ridiculous! This house is in my husband's name! You can't just come here and hand us papers! Who do you think you are?"

"Ma'am, please step back," one of the police officers said, his hand resting calmly on his holster.

The court official continued, "The donor of this property, Mr. Arturo Montes, has legally initiated the revocation process. We have been presented with irrefutable evidence of severe psychological and economic abuse, forced labor, and indignity directed toward the donor's spouse, Mrs. Carmen Montes, who resided on these premises."

"What evidence?" Mauricio screamed. "That’s a lie! She was here voluntarily! She's my mother!"

"We have video evidence, audio recordings, and eyewitness testimony from neighboring staff," the official replied coldly. "Furthermore, the court has issued an emergency protective order. You and your wife are legally barred from contacting or approaching Carmen Montes or Arturo Montes."

The official pointed to the document. "As of this moment, the deed of this property has been temporarily reverted to the sole ownership of Arturo Montes. Under the conditional clause of the original donation contract, you have exactly forty-eight hours to vacate these premises. Every item of furniture and art that was purchased with funds provided by Arturo Montes must remain in the house. You may only leave with your personal clothing."

"Forty-eight hours?!" Valeria shrieked, her face twisting with rage. "This is my house! I picked out the curtains! I decorated this place! You can't throw us out onto the street!"

At that moment, the door of the black sedan parked on the street opened.

Arturo stepped out.

He wore a clean, tailored suit—not his mechanic's overalls. Beside him stood Hector Delgado, looking every bit the high-powered attorney he was. Arturo walked slowly up the driveway, his posture straight, his eyes burning with an intense, quiet power.

"Dad!" Mauricio cried, running toward him, but the police officers immediately stepped in his way, blocking his path. "Dad, please! Talk to me! This is all a misunderstanding! Valeria didn't mean those things... we were just stressed! We love Mom!"

Arturo stopped ten feet away. He looked at his son—the boy he had given everything to.

"Do you know what the hardest part of working in a machine shop is, Mauricio?" Arturo asked, his voice low and steady. "It’s when a part is so rusted, so rotten inside, that no amount of oil or polishing can save it. You have to throw it away and start over."

"Dad, please! I'm your son! Your only son!"

"My son died when he put a cleaning rag in his mother’s hand and forced her to clean up his wife's mess," Arturo said, his voice cold as ice. "My son died when he slammed this very door in my face. You are not my son. You are just a debtor who owes me four million pesos for this house, and two million pesos for a forged loan."

Hector Delgado stepped forward, a smug smile on his face. "And let’s not forget the criminal charges for bank fraud, forgery, and identity theft. The bank has already initiated criminal proceedings against you, Mauricio. The police will be back in forty-eight hours. If you are still on this property, you will be removed in handcuffs."

Arturo turned his back on them, walking back to his car without looking back once.

"No! Dad! You can't do this to me!" Mauricio screamed, his voice cracking with desperation.

Valeria grabbed Mauricio’s arm, her face red with fury. "This is insane! If we have to leave, Mauricio... if they are going to take this house from us... I’m not leaving it perfect for them. If we can't have this mansion, no one can."

A dark, malicious look crossed Valeria’s eyes. "We have forty-eight hours, Mauricio. Let’s make sure that when your father gets his precious house back, it’s nothing but a ruined shell."
