Chapter 7 - THE FINAL CONFESSIONThe federal grand jury room in downtown Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity. Reporters, legal analysts, and curious onlookers spilled out into the marble hallways, all straining for a glimpse of the woman who had single-handedly dismantled one of the most powerful medical tech conglomerates in the country.

At the center table sat Jason Mitchell.

He didn't look like a king anymore. Stripped of his custom silk suits, forced into a standard orange detention jumpsuit, with his hair uncombed and handcuffs shackling his wrists to the heavy steel table, he looked hollowed out—a pathetic, broken shell of a man who realized too late that his money, his lawyers, and his intimidation tactics couldn't buy him out of a federal trap.

Marcus Vance had long since abandoned him, cutting a separate deal with prosecutors to save his own license. Madison Brooks was sitting in a separate holding facility three blocks away, facing twenty years for federal wire fraud and accessory charges.

When I walked through the heavy double doors of the grand jury room, wearing a sharp, tailored navy blue suit and carrying a single leather portfolio, every head turned in unison.

Jason looked up. His eyes, bloodshot and filled with a mixture of raw hatred and desperate terror, locked onto mine.

"Iris..." he rasped, his voice cracking as he tried to lean forward, only for the heavy chain on his wrists to jerk him back with a harsh metallic clang. "Iris, please... we can fix this. We were married for ten years! Drop the supplementary charges! Let us make a deal!"

I didn't break stride. I walked right past his table without slowing down, my heels clicking sharply against the polished marble floor.

I took my seat at the prosecution's witness podium, looked up at the panel of twelve grand jurors and Judge Vance presiding over the evidentiary hearing, and opened my portfolio.

"Proceed, Mrs. Mitchell," Judge Vance said, her voice echoing gently through the high-ceilinged room.

I laid my hands flat on the wooden podium, right over the scars on my wrists that I no longer needed to hide, no longer needed to bury beneath layers of heavy fabric or shame.

"My name is Iris Mitchell," I began, my voice clear, steady, and resonant, carrying across every corner of the room without a single trace of hesitation. "For ten years, I was told I was weak, that I was powerless, and that without the man sitting at that table, I was nothing."

I turned my head slowly, fixing my eyes directly on Jason as he shrank back into his chair, trembling under the weight of a hundred gazes.

"Today, I am here to present the complete, unedited medical, financial, and criminal history of Mitchell Medical Technologies—and the man who built an empire on blood, lies, and stolen lives."

As I began to speak, reading the first name from Dr. Catherine Hayes’s recovered file, the frantic clicking of reporters' keyboards filled the courtroom like the sound of a rising tide—washing away the past, sweeping away the ruins, and leaving nothing behind but the absolute, undeniable truth.
