Chapter 8 - The Basement JusticeDeep underground, beneath the eastern wing of the Duca estate, the stone cellars echoed with the sound of dripping water.

Marco was chained to a heavy iron ring in the center of the damp room, his expensive charcoal coat ruined, his face bruised and bleeding from the swift vengeance of Lorenzo’s enforcers.
Elena sat tied to a wooden chair in the corner, her face pale with terror as she watched Lorenzo sharpen a heavy hunting knife under the dim glow of a single overhead bulb.
“You can’t do this, Lorenzo!” Elena shrieked, panic finally cracking her icy facade. “The police will look for me! My family has influence! You’ll rot in a federal prison!”
“The police?” Lorenzo chuckled darkly, testing the edge of the blade with his thumb. “Elena, in this city, the police report will state that you and Marco died in a tragic, fiery explosion inside the eastern tunnel alongside the assassin we found in the garage. Your bodies are already burned beyond recognition in the wreckage.”

Marco lifted his head, his eyes bloodshot and filled with venom. “You’re a monster, Duca. You’ll never find peace. Someone else will come for you.”
“Let them come,” Lorenzo whispered, stepping close to Marco and pressing the flat of the cold steel against his cheek. “Because unlike today... next time, I won't let a three-year-old child warn me to be careful. I’ll be waiting.”
