Chapter 4 - The Silent Alliance

"Let them think they've won. For now."Alejandro didn't storm downstairs. He didn't scream. A cold, calculating calm settled over him—the same strategic mind that made him a legendary project director in Santa Fe. If he reacted now, they would destroy the evidence, deny everything, and play the victims to the rest of their extended family.

No. He wanted a complete, undeniable demolition.

He walked back downstairs with a calm smile. "I've unlocked the cards," he lied smoothly. "Go ahead and enjoy your shopping tomorrow, girls. You deserve it."

Ximena and Valeria squealed with delight, immediately grabbing their phones to plan their spree. Doña Carmen gave Alejandro a smug, victorious look.

Later that night, when the house was finally quiet, Alejandro locked their bedroom door. Sofía was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, tears silent on her cheeks.

Alejandro lay down beside her, pulling her close. "Sofía," he whispered.

"I'm sorry, Alejandro," she choked out. "I'm so sorry I lied to you. I just... I can't lose our baby."

"Shh," Alejandro whispered, kissing her forehead. "You aren't going to lose anyone. I know about the folder, Sofía. I saw the kitchen cameras."

Sofía gasped, her body tensing in sheer panic. "You... you saw?"

"Yes. And I know they tried to blackmail you with your surrogacy. But they forgot one thing, my love: I already knew. You told me years ago. They have no power over us."

Sofía looked at him, hope flaring in her eyes for the first time in months. "But... they said they would take our baby. They said they would use their lawyers..."

"With what money?" Alejandro’s voice was ice. "Every single penny they have ever spent belongs to me. The credit cards, the cars they drive, the elite university tuition, the luxury trips—it all comes from my bank account. They have nothing."

He took her hands, kissing the raw, bandaged skin. "For the next three days, I need you to play along. Let them think they have broken you. Let them buy whatever they want. Let them feel completely invincible. Because on Tuesday, we are going to end this forever."

Over the next forty-eight hours, the abuse continued, but this time, Sofía endured it with a secret strength. Ximena made her polish her designer shoes. Valeria demanded she prepare a complex three-course meal. Doña Carmen sat in the living room, acting like the undisputed queen of the estate, whispering threats to Sofía whenever Alejandro was out of the room.

"Enjoy your little mansion while you can, peasant," Valeria whispered to Sofía in the hallway on Monday morning. "The lawyers are drafting the relinquishment papers. By tomorrow, you’ll just be a guest in this house."

Sofía only smiled gently. "Whatever you say, Valeria."

Meanwhile, Alejandro was busy. He didn't go to his architectural firm. He spent his days in meetings with a high-profile asset division lawyer, a forensic accountant, and the property management company of their Coyoacán estate.

He discovered that over the last five years, his mother and sisters had not only spent his monthly allowance, but they had also secretly forged his signature on several documents to open secondary credit lines in his name, accumulating over $150,000 in hidden debt.

They weren't just parasites. They were criminals.
