Chapter 7 - The ConfrontationEthan marched across the dining room, his footsteps heavy and uncoordinated, ignoring the shocked stares of the surrounding patrons. Madison scrambled right behind him, her white lace wedding dress rustling loudly in the tense silence.

He stopped right at the edge of our table, his hands gripping the mahogany wood so hard his knuckles turned white.

"You did this," Ethan choked out, his voice a low, venomous hiss. "You planned this entire thing. The quiet settlement, the fast signature, the waiver... you knew about the trust clause all along."

I didn’t rush. I slowly set my glass down on the coaster, wiped my fingers with a linen napkin, and looked up to meet his wild, bloodshot eyes.

"I have no idea what you're talking about, Ethan," I said, my voice smooth, infuriatingly calm. "We had a clean, mutually agreed-upon divorce. You signed the papers voluntarily. You told the judge yourself that you wanted a fast, unencumbered separation so you could move on with your... new life."

"Don't play games with me!" Ethan slammed his palm onto the table, rattling the silverware. "The trust administrator! They just notified my corporate office that the primary generational disbursement has been locked and permanently reassigned to the primary legal bloodline heir! But... but that's supposed to be me!"

"Well," I tilted my head, offering him a sweet, pitying smile. "As you pointed out so eloquently outside the courthouse this morning, Ethan... life moves on. And clearly, you needed someone who could match your ambitions. A baby, on the other hand, requires actual responsibility. Something you've always struggled with."

Madison shoved past Ethan, her face twisted in an ugly mask of fury and panic. She pointed a shaking, manicured finger directly at my face.

"You bitch!" she screamed, losing all pretense of the polished society lady she had pretended to be all morning. "You set us up! You trapped him into signing away his rights while hiding the trust mechanics! I gave up my career, my reputation, my entire social circle for this man, and you just stole everything from us!"

I raised an eyebrow, finally letting the cold, hard truth shine through my polite facade.

"Stole, Madison?" I asked quietly, standing up from the table with deliberate slowness, letting my eight-month-pregnant silhouette tower over her in all its undeniable reality. "I didn't steal anything. You bought a clearance-sale item without checking the warranty. You wanted a man who would betray his pregnant wife? Congratulations. You officially own him. Every single penny of his personal debt, every pending federal audit, and every consequence of his own catastrophic greed."

Ethan stared at me, his chest heaving, the vibrant, successful corporate illusion completely stripped away, leaving only a hollow, terrified fraud standing in a bespoke navy suit.

"Please, Olivia," Ethan whispered, his voice cracking into a pathetic, desperate plea. "We can fix this. We can go back to court. We can amend the settlement—"

"There is nothing to amend, Ethan," I said, picking up my designer handbag and sliding my coat over my shoulders. "The divorce is final. The trust is sealed. And our son is going to grow up knowing that his mother didn't need to steal a damn thing to win."

I turned to my mother, who stood up proudly beside me.

"Shall we go, Mom? The air in here is getting a bit desperate."
