Chapter 3 - THE VAULT OF SECRETS"Bring him in," Detective Martinez muttered into his lapel mic, tapping his radio.

Within seconds, two uniformed officers stepped into the cubicle, flanking the doorway. The illusion of control Samuel and Joyce had meticulously built over three years dissolved into the sterile, fluorescent reality of the hospital ward.

"Mr. Samuel Sanders and Mrs. Joyce Sanders," Martinez said, pulling out a pair of steel cuffs from his belt. "You are not under arrest yet, but you are required to accompany us to the precinct for formal questioning regarding an aggravated assault investigation."

"You can't do this!" Joyce shrieked, her mask of polite aristocratic charm shattering completely. She lunged forward, her fingers clawing at the air. "Do you know who we are? Do you know how many politicians and judges dine at our estate? My son is a pillar of this community!"

"Your son is a coward," I said quietly.

My voice wasn't weak anymore. I let the tremor fade, sitting up slightly against the pillows despite the searing pull of the bandages on my shoulder. The transformation was instant. The terrified, submissive housewife vanished, replaced by the razor-sharp senior partner who used to dismantle corporate empires for breakfast.

Samuel stared at me, his eyes wide with sudden, terrifying realization. The way I held my chin, the cold, calculated precision in my gaze—it wasn't the woman he had gaslighted for thirty-six months. It was the ghost of the attorney he thought he had buried.

"You..." Samuel whispered, his breath catching in his throat. "You planned this."

"You built the stage, Samuel," I replied evenly, my voice like crushed ice. "I just bought the front-row tickets."

"Don't listen to her, she's delusional!" Joyce screamed as the cuffs clicked onto Samuel's wrists first. "She's insane! She transferred everything to us! The house, the accounts, the stocks! She has nothing! She's a homeless pauper without us!"

Samuel struggled against the officer, his face contorting with rage as he glared at me. "The assets are mine, Elena! Every single penny is in my name! Even if you put me in cuffs, you're walking out of here with nothing!"

I offered them a slow, terrifying smile. "Is that what you think, darling?"

I gestured weakly toward my nightstand where my designer handbag sat—the one the paramedics had salvaged from the kitchen counter. "Detective, would you mind opening the front pocket of that bag? There's a small, encrypted flash drive inside. It contains the real corporate filings, the master trust deeds, and a notarized letter of revocation dated six months ago."

Samuel went completely rigid. "That's impossible. I burned those papers in the study fireplace."

"You burned the decoy copies I left in my desk drawer," I corrected softly, watching the color drain completely from his face. "You were always so predictable, Samuel. You never check the serial numbers on legal documents because you assume everyone else is as careless as you are."
