Chapter 18 - Echoes of the Past

Life in our coastal sanctuary settled into a rhythm of profound peace and steady purpose. The trauma that had once defined our days began to recede into the background, replaced by the simple, beautiful routines of everyday family life: Sunday morning pancakes, backyard baseball games, and late-night stargazing sessions on the porch.

Every week, our office received hundreds of letters from parents sharing their own stories of survival, drawing strength from the precedent we had set.

Inside was a simple handwritten note on plain white paper: “Thank you for showing us that the dark doesn't win. – Sarah & Liam.”

Mason walked into the office carrying two mugs of hot chocolate, handing one to me before leaning against the desk to look at the open window overlooking the ocean.
