CHAPTER 5 — THE SECRET OF VALERIA’S BIRTH THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

The folder sat on the hospital bed.

A simple brown folder.

Nothing special.

But Teresa knew better.

Sometimes the most dangerous things in the world were not weapons.

They were documents.

A few pieces of paper that could destroy a person’s entire life.

Valeria stared at it.

Her face was pale.

“Why would a nurse bring me this?”

The nurse looked toward the door.

Because she was afraid someone might hear.

“Because you deserve to know the truth before it’s too late.”

Teresa stepped closer.

“Who gave you this?”

The nurse hesitated.

Then whispered:

“Someone who worked with Dr. Aranda years ago.”

Valeria’s breathing became heavier.

“Another victim?”

The nurse didn’t answer.

And that silence was an answer itself.

Teresa opened the folder.

The first page was an old birth certificate.

She scanned the information.

Then stopped.

Her eyes widened.

Because the name of Valeria’s biological father was not the man she had spent twenty-eight years believing was her father.

It was someone else.

Someone impossible.

Someone who could explain everything.

“Mom?”

Teresa didn’t respond.

“Mom, what is it?”

Slowly, Teresa lifted her eyes.

And for the first time in days…

She looked genuinely shocked.

“Valeria…”

Her daughter became nervous.

“What?”

Teresa sat down beside her.

“Your father…”

She struggled to speak.

“Your biological father was not Arturo.”

Valeria froze.

“What?”

The room became silent.

The nurse looked down.

“I’m sorry.”

Valeria shook her head.

“No.”

She laughed nervously.

“No, that’s impossible.”

Teresa held the document.

“I never knew.”

“You’re lying.”

“I’m not.”

Valeria looked terrified.

“Then who was he?”

Teresa turned the page.

And saw the name.

A name she remembered.

A name from a past she had buried.

Dr. Alejandro Aranda.

The same family name.

The same bloodline.

The same family Emiliano came from.

Teresa’s hands went cold.

“Emiliano…”

The nurse nodded.

“Yes.”

Valeria looked confused.

“What does he have to do with this?”

The nurse answered quietly:

“Dr. Emiliano Aranda is your half-brother.”

The world seemed to stop.

Valeria stared at her.

“No.”

She shook her head.

“No, that’s not possible.”

Teresa looked at the papers again.

Her mind was racing.

Years ago, before marrying Arturo, Teresa had a relationship with Alejandro Aranda.

A brilliant doctor.

A complicated man.

A man who disappeared before Valeria was born.

She thought that chapter of her life was over.

She never imagined it would return through the person who married her daughter.

Meanwhile…

Inside his office, Emiliano was watching security footage.

He saw Valeria receiving the folder.

His expression changed.

“What did they find?”

His assistant stood nearby.

“We don’t know yet.”

Emiliano slammed his hand on the desk.

“You were supposed to stop anyone from accessing those files.”

“We tried.”

“Try harder.”

The assistant hesitated.

“Doctor…”

“What?”

“Are you sure this is worth it?”

Emiliano looked at her.

A cold smile appeared.

“Worth it?”

He walked toward the window.

“Do you know what people do when they discover they were born with nothing?”

The assistant said nothing.

“They spend their entire lives trying to prove they deserve power.”

He looked at the city below.

“My father built this medical empire.”

“He left it to someone else.”

“Teresa stole everything from my family.”

His voice became darker.

“And now I’m taking it back.”

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

“Who is this?”

A familiar voice responded.

“Someone who knows what you did.”

Emiliano froze.

“Rafael?”

“No.”

The voice was different.

Older.

Calmer.

“You always thought you were the smartest person in the room.”

Emiliano tightened his grip on the phone.

“Who are you?”

The answer came slowly.

“I’m the man whose daughter you destroyed.”

Silence.

Then Emiliano understood.

“Lucía’s father…”

The voice continued:

“You remember her.”

Emiliano said nothing.

“You thought her death disappeared.”

A pause.

“But I spent six years collecting everything.”

Emiliano’s face changed.

“You don’t have proof.”

The man laughed.

“That’s where you’re wrong.”

Back at the hospital, Teresa finally understood the truth.

Emiliano didn’t choose Valeria because he loved her.

He chose her because he wanted access.

Access to her.

Access to the foundation.

Access to everything connected to Teresa.

He had been planning this from the beginning.

A marriage.

A pregnancy.

A perfect image.

A perfect opportunity.

But he made one mistake.

He underestimated the women in his life.

That evening, Teresa called an emergency meeting of the foundation board.

Every member arrived.

Including Rafael.

But this time…

He entered without confidence.

Without power.

Without his expensive suit and arrogant smile.

He looked like a broken man.

Teresa placed the evidence on the table.

“The doctor everyone worships has been using this clinic as his personal weapon.”

Nobody spoke.

She continued.

“He manipulated patients.”

“He hid abuse.”

“He planned to harm my daughter.”

The board members looked horrified.

Then Teresa placed the final document on the table.

The birth record.

“This is why.”

Everyone looked confused.

“What does this mean?”

Teresa looked at Rafael.

Then at the board.

“It means Emiliano never wanted my daughter.”

A pause.

“He wanted my inheritance.”

At that exact moment…

The lights in the conference room went out.

Everyone gasped.

The emergency lights turned on.

And a message appeared on the large screen.

A video.

Recorded secretly.

The room became silent.

Because the person appearing on the screen…

Was Valeria.

She looked directly into the camera.

Her eyes were full of tears.

But she wasn’t afraid.

“I know what Emiliano planned.”

Everyone froze.

Teresa stood up.

“Valeria…”

Her daughter continued:

“I know about the surgery.”

“I know about the documents.”

“And I know why he married me.”

A shadow appeared behind her.

Someone was standing in the room with her.

Teresa’s heart stopped.

“Valeria, where are you?”

Her daughter looked at the camera.

And whispered:

“Mom…”

A tear rolled down her face.

“I’m not at the hospital.”

Silence.

“I left.”

Everyone froze.

Then Valeria said the words that changed everything:

“Because I found out something worse than Emiliano’s plan.”

The screen flickered.

And before the video ended, she revealed:

“The person helping Emiliano is not Rafael.”

A pause.

“It’s someone you trust even more.”

The screen went black.

Teresa stood frozen.

Because there was only one person left.

One person who had access to everything.

One person who knew every secret.

One person who had been beside them from the beginning.

And when Teresa saw the name appear on the security report…

Her heart shattered.

Because the final traitor…

May you like

Was someone she had raised like her own child.
