Chapter 5 - THE MIDNIGHT RAIDBefore Victor could lunge across the table, the heavy iron-reinforced front doors of the mansion echoed with a deafening series of rhythmic thuds.

Boom. Boom. Boom.

The sound of battering rams hitting the twelve-foot oak doors vibrated through the floorboards. Glass chandeliers rattled overhead. The private security guards hired by the Han family looked at each other, their hands hovering over their sidearms, but before any of them could draw, the tactical team stationed outside breached the side windows.

The sound of shattering glass was drowned out by the crisp, authoritative shouts of federal agents flooding the grand hallway.

"Federal Bureau of Investigation! Nobody move! Stay where you are!"

Blue and red strobe lights from half a dozen cruisers outside painted the tall glass windows of the dining room in frantic, strobing flashes. The rain against the glass sounded like gravel being thrown against a wall.

Marcus struggled frantically against the guards holding him down. "Dad! Do something! Call the governor! Call the judges!"

Victor didn't move. He had collapsed back into his chair, his skin the color of curdled milk, staring blankly at the glass of wine staining the tablecloth. The empire he had spent thirty years scheming to inherit had just dissolved into a bankruptcy notice and a pair of steel handcuffs.

Sun-hee turned her head slowly, looking at Daniel with a look of pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You destroyed your own blood for an outsider," she spat, her voice trembling with rage. "You think she cares about you? When the federal prosecutors offer her a plea deal to testify against the organization, she'll sell you out before you even reach the precinct."

Daniel stepped closer to his mother, his expression colder than the winter rain lashing the windows.

"My wife doesn't need a plea deal, Mother," Daniel said softly. "Because she didn't sign the corporate liability waivers back in 2020. I did. Every illegal manifest, every smuggled container, every transaction—it was all registered under my sole proprietorship, insulated by a legal firewall that you spent ten years trying to pierce without realizing I built it specifically to trap you and Uncle Victor."

Sun-hee’s breath caught. "What... what did you say?"

"You wanted to test my loyalty?" Daniel leaned down, his lips brushing her ear. "I spent eight years tearing this organization apart from the inside, waiting for you to make a move big enough to let me legally burn it to the ground. You gave me the match tonight when you made my wife eat in the kitchen."
