Chapter 2 - The Fall of the House of Cole

"Let go of my son this instant!" Charlotte shrieked, her voice losing all its cultivated elegance as she took a desperate step forward.

Attorney Holloway instinctively reached out to hold her back, his legal instincts finally kicking in as he assessed the situation. He could see what Charlotte was too blind with rage to notice: we weren't just two people having a domestic dispute. We were standing in the epicenter of a federal trap, and the jaws were already snapping shut.

"Mrs. Cole, I advise you to stay back," Holloway murmured, his voice tight with professional anxiety. He looked directly at me, his eyes sharp and calculating. "Miss... Elena. Let's not do anything rash. Whatever grievances you have regarding the marriage contract or asset distribution can be resolved through civil mediation. There's no need to involve federal entities over a domestic misunderstanding."

I let out a low, humorless laugh.

"A misunderstanding?" I shifted my weight, keeping Adrian completely immobilized while my free hand slid the sealed manila envelope an inch further across the polished floor toward the attorneys. "Is that what you call corporate embezzlement, offshore laundering, and the systematic silencing of whistleblowers, Mr. Holloway?"

Adrian’s breath hitched. Beneath me, his entire body went rigid.

"She's bluffing," Adrian hissed, though his voice lacked any real conviction. "She doesn't know anything. She's a nobody from Queens—"

"A nobody who spent three years auditing forensic financial records for international conglomerates before pivoting to martial arts," I interrupted, my voice dropping an octave, heavy with absolute authority. "Did you really think I didn't look into the man I was marrying, Adrian? Or did your monumental ego blind you to the fact that I was tracking your shell companies while you were busy picking out my wedding flowers?"

I finally released Adrian’s arm, stepping backward with fluid, controlled grace. He scrambled to his feet like a cornered animal, clutching his bruised shoulder, his face slick with sweat and twisted in pure hatred. He lunged forward as if he wanted to strike me himself, but Attorney Vance grabbed his arm, pulling him back.

"Adrian, stop!" Vance hissed. "Look at her! She's not scared. She has something."

Charlotte stared at the manila envelope on the floor as if it were a live grenade. "What is that?" she whispered, her voice uncharacteristically small.

"That," I said, reaching down to pick up the folded sheet of paper Adrian had handed me less than fifteen minutes ago—his precious 'wife rules'—and letting it flutter to the floor like trash, "is the beginning of the end for the Cole dynasty. Inside that envelope are the digital footprints of your former fiancée, Victoria Vance—the one you claimed 'ran off to Europe' three years ago, Adrian."

The color completely drained from Adrian’s face. He looked like a ghost.

"Victoria didn't run away," I continued, stepping forward as the elevator chimed yet again.

This time, the doors didn't open to reveal family lawyers. They opened to reveal four federal agents in dark suits, flanked by local NYPD officers, led by none other than Chloe Bennett herself, her badge gleaming in the penthouse lights.

"Federal agents!" Chloe announced, her voice echoing off the penthouse walls with unmistakable authority. "Adrian Cole, you are under arrest for securities fraud, wire fraud, and the obstruction of justice. Charlotte Cole, you are being detained for questioning regarding corporate conspiracy."

The penthouse erupted into chaos. Charlotte screamed, clutching her chest, while the high-powered attorneys instantly threw their hands up, stepping back to distance themselves completely from their crumbling clients.

Adrian backed up until his spine hit the panoramic floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the Manhattan skyline. He looked at the federal agents, then at Chloe, and finally back at me—the woman he had tried to break with a whip ten minutes ago.

"How?" Adrian whispered, his voice trembling. "How did you know everything?"

I smiled, adjusting the diamond pendant on my neck as Chloe stepped forward to snap the cold steel cuffs around his wrists.

"Because, Adrian," I said softly, stepping past him toward the door, "you always underestimated the quiet ones."
