Chapter 5 - The Morning AfterAt 7:30 AM on Friday, the front doors of Riverbend Medical Center were swarmed by local reporters, camera crews, and legal representatives.

Word had leaked from the county courthouse minutes after public probate notification protocols were triggered. The headline flashing across local news stations and social media feeds sent shockwaves through the corporate world:

BILLIONAIRE WALTER HALE LEAVES ENTIRE PERSONAL ESTATE TO UNKNOWN LOCAL NURSE.

Inside the break room, Rachel Kim stared at her smartphone screen in absolute horror, her jaw dropping so low it nearly hit the table.

"Emily!" Rachel shrieked, spinning her phone around so the screen faced Emily, who was calmly pouring a cup of coffee. "What is this?! Is this a sick joke? Look at the news! 'Billionaire Walter Hale Leaves Six Hundred Million Dollars to Riverbend Nurse Emily Parker!' Are you out of your mind?!"

Before Emily could answer, the break room door swung open violently.

Helen Brooks rushed in, followed closely by the hospital administrator, Dr. Harrison, whose face was purple with panic.

"Emily Parker!" Dr. Harrison barked, his voice shaking with fury. "Get to my office right now! The hospital board is on speakerphone, corporate legal counsel is demanding an immediate audit, and there's a mob of reporters downstairs demanding to know how a regular staff nurse manipulated a dying patient into signing away a multi-million-dollar estate!"

Emily didn't flinch. She took a slow sip of her coffee, set the paper cup down on the counter, and reached into her pocket. She pulled out the heavy gold pocket watch Walter Hale had given her, letting the heavy chain dangle from her fingers.

"I didn't manipulate anyone, Dr. Harrison," Emily said, her voice completely calm, carrying an eerie, quiet authority that made the hospital administrator step back.

"You're in catastrophic trouble, young lady!" Harrison shouted, stepping forward. "Harrison Hale has filed an emergency injunction in superior court alleging severe elder abuse, fraud, and mental incapacity! You're going to be arrested before lunch!"

As if on cue, the heavy double doors of the break room pushed open again.

Arthur Vance strode in, flanked by two armed private security guards and carrying his leather briefcase. The senior lawyer scanned the terrified faces of the hospital administration with a cold, predatory smile.

"Good morning, Dr. Harrison," Vance said smoothly, stepping up beside Emily. "I suggest you watch your tone when addressing my client's primary legal beneficiary and adopted daughter."

Dr. Harrison stammered, his face turning pale. "Mr... Mr. Vance? You represent the Hale Estate! You can't possibly validate—"

"Every document is encrypted, notarized, and sealed under ironclad state statutes," Vance interrupted crisply, snapping his briefcase open and pulling out a certified copy of the probate decree. "The estate transfer is entirely legal, binding, and fully endorsed by Walter Hale while he was in complete possession of his mental faculties."

Vance turned to Emily, offering her a respectful nod.

"Good morning, Miss Parker. Your car and legal team are waiting outside. Shall we go address the press?"
