Chapter 7 - The Final Stand

Smoke filled the grand library as a team of federal agents—led not by corrupt local police, but by an elite federal task force—poured into the room, their assault rifles drawn and laser sights painting the walls in a web of crimson.

At the front of the tactical unit stood a tall woman in a crisp federal marshal’s uniform, her badge gleaming under the shattered chandelier.

“Marcus Vance! Eleanor Vance! Drop your weapons! You are under federal arrest for racketeering, conspiracy, and attempted murder!”

Chaos erupted instantly.

Marcus roared in fury, spinning around to fire at the federal agents, but Vincent was faster. With a fluid, blinding motion, Vincent drew his own weapon and fired, the bullet striking Marcus’s gun hand and sending the revolver clattering across the marble floor.

Tommy Bellucci and Elena’s elite security detail flooded the room from the balconies, engaging the Chicago enforcers in a fierce, chaotic firefight. Shouts, the roar of gunfire, and the shattering of priceless art echoed through the Winnetka mansion.

Celia instinctively threw herself over Leo, shielding the paralyzed boy with her own body as plaster rained down from the ceiling.

“Stay down!” Vincent shouted, sliding across the floor to join them, firing three precise shots that neutralized the remaining Chicago guards near the back exit. He grabbed Leo in one arm and extended his other hand to Celia. “We’re moving! Now!”

They sprinted toward the private elevator as Eleanor Vance, abandoned by her own guards, retreated toward her private chambers, her face twisted in absolute fury.

“You can’t arrest me!” Eleanor screamed at the federal marshals as they slapped cuffs on her aged wrists. “I am the law in this city!”

“Not anymore, Grandma,” Elena Vance remarked coldly, watching her grandmother get dragged away by federal agents. She turned to Vincent, who was safely ushering Celia and Leo into the elevator car. “Looks like family Thanksgiving is going to be a little quiet this year.”

The elevator doors closed, cutting off the noise of the raid as they descended into the subterranean escape tunnels beneath Lake Michigan.
