CHAPTER 2 "The Billionaire Thought the Truth Had Finally Come Out... Until His Own Mother Confessed the Secret She Buried for Twenty-Two Years."

Nobody breathed.

Even the orchestra had stopped playing.

Eleanor's trembling hand reached toward Emma's face.

"My name..."

"...was Sarah Collins," Emma whispered.

The old woman's eyes flooded with tears.

Sarah.

The name she had spent twenty-three years trying to erase.

Richard looked between them.

"Mother..."

"What is happening?"

Eleanor closed her eyes.

"You never abandoned Sarah."

Vanessa frowned.

"What?"

Richard stepped backward.

"What do you mean?"

The old woman began crying.

"Because..."

"...I was the one who destroyed your family."

The ballroom erupted.

Reporters rushed closer.

Phones rose into the air.

Richard stared at his mother in disbelief.

"You told me Sarah left."

"You said she married another man."

"You showed me divorce papers."

"They were fake."

Richard felt sick.

Eleanor confessed everything.

Twenty-three years earlier...

Richard had been nothing more than a young architect deeply in love with a waitress named Sarah.

She wasn't rich.

She wasn't powerful.

She was simply kind.

But Eleanor believed marrying a poor woman would destroy the Ashford dynasty forever.

So she paid lawyers.

Forged documents.

Bribed witnesses.

Even arranged for Sarah to disappear after learning she was pregnant.

Sarah had searched for Richard.

Again.

And again.

Every letter she wrote...

Was intercepted.

Every phone call...

Blocked.

Richard spent years believing Sarah had betrayed him.

Sarah spent years believing Richard had abandoned her.

Neither knew the truth.

Emma slowly removed another item.

A worn leather diary.

"My mother wrote everything."

Inside were hospital records.

Letters never delivered.

Birthday cards addressed to Richard every single year.

And one heartbreaking sentence written only three days before Sarah died.

"If he truly forgot us... forgive him."

"But if he never knew..."

"Tell him I loved him until my last breath."

Richard collapsed onto his knees.

Tears poured uncontrollably.

For twenty-two years...

He had hated the wrong person.

Vanessa's face slowly lost all color.

Because she suddenly realized something.

If Emma truly was Richard's daughter...

Everything changed.

The Ashford fortune.

The inheritance.

The family trust.

Her own son...

Would no longer be the only heir.

She smiled.

But only for a second.

Then quietly reached into her purse.

No one noticed.

Except one person.

Emma.

She watched Vanessa secretly tear one page from Sarah's diary before slipping it into her handbag.

Emma didn't understand why.

Not yet.

But that missing page...

May you like

Would soon expose a crime far darker than anyone imagined.
