Chapter 3 - The Valkyrie ProtocolI didn't sleep that night. I sat in my small apartment, the laptop screen casting a pale blue glow across my face.

The USB drive was heavily encrypted, but the leather-bound ledger told a story that made my blood run cold.

My father hadn't just been an estate planner. For the last five years of his life, he and Victor had been laundering money for a massive, shadowy offshore syndicate operating under the shell name "Valkyrie Holdings." Millions of dollars—stolen from high-net-worth clients, crooked politicians, and dangerous foreign entities—had flowed through their firm's accounts.

According to my father’s detailed handwritten entries, he had discovered that Victor was skimming from Valkyrie’s illegal accounts to cover his own massive gambling debts in Macao and Las Vegas.

The last entry was dated November 14th—the night my father died:

"Victor has crossed the line. Valkyrie found out about the missing millions. They threatened to erase our entire family if the money isn't returned by midnight. I told Victor I'm going to the FBI tomorrow morning to confess everything and take the plea deal to protect Caroline and the boys. He lost his mind. He threatened me. God forgive me for dragging my family into this dark place."

I stared at the pages, my hands trembling violently.

My father wasn't just murdered over a personal dispute. He was executed because he was about to blow the whistle on an international criminal syndicate—and Victor had framed my mother to ensure the secrets died with my father while Victor inherited control of the money.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed on the desk, shattering the quiet room.

An unknown number appeared on the screen.

I answered, holding the phone tightly to my ear. "Hello?"

"You're in over your head, kid," a deep, distorted voice rasped through the speaker.

Every muscle in my body seized up. "Who is this?"

"Your father was a smart man, Leo, but he was weak. He thought he could outsmart people who own judges, police chiefs, and politicians. Victor was a idiot, but he kept his mouth shut. You, on the other hand... you're poking around places that will get you buried next to your old man."

"I have his ledger," I said, my voice shaking despite my best efforts to sound bold. "I know about Valkyrie. I know Victor killed him."

The person on the other end chuckled—a low, terrifying sound.

"Victor didn't act alone that night, boy. Do you really think an idiot like Victor could wipe a crime scene clean enough to convince a grand jury, a lead prosecutor, and a state forensic team in less than forty-five minutes?"

The floor felt like it was dropping out beneath me.

"What are you saying?" I whispered.

"I'm saying... your mother’s trial wasn't a mistake. It was an assignment. And if you don't drop this crusade right now, little Ethan won't make it to his ninth birthday."

The line went dead.
