Chapter 3 - The Leak at Saint Matthew’sThe headlines hit the digital feeds of every major news outlet in Tennessee at 11:45 PM.

“DEAD OR ALIVE? Billionaire Ethan Cole’s Miraculous Discovery Shakes Healthcare Giant.” “Stolen Heir: Inside the Catastrophic Administrative Cover-Up at Saint Matthew’s Hospital.”
By midnight, a media circus had formed outside the sprawling gates of Ethan’s Nashville estate, while satellite trucks swarmed the entrance of Saint Matthew’s Hospital like vultures circling a carcass.
Inside the sleek, glass-walled penthouse of the Cole Tower downtown, Ethan stood before floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the flashing lights of the news vans far below. A single glass of scotch sat untouched on the mahogany bar behind him.
Marcus Hale paced the length of the minimalist office, his tablet flashing with relentless email notifications.
"The leak didn't come from our legal team, and it didn't come from Rosa Mendez," Marcus said, scrolling furiously through a data packet. "The metadata on the press release points directly to an internal server router inside Saint Matthew’s administration wing. Someone inside the hospital is trying to get ahead of the fallout before the state medical board launches an official inquiry."
Ethan didn't turn around. His reflection in the glass looked like a marble statue carved out of pure vengeance. "Dr. Vance."
"Not just Vance," Marcus corrected, stopping his pacing. "The hospital's parent corporation, Apex Healthcare Group, is owned by Julian Thorne."
Ethan’s posture stiffened instantly. Julian Thorne. His oldest corporate rival, a man who had tried hostile takeovers of Cole Enterprises twice in the last five years and failed miserably every time.
"Thorne owns the network holding company that oversees Saint Matthew’s and Riverbend Children’s Hospital," Ethan muttered, the pieces clicking together with terrifying clarity. "He didn't just stumble onto the clerical error. He used it."
"He’s weaponizing it," Marcus confirmed grimly. "If the public finds out that an infant was lost in a state-subsidized hospital network under his direct financial umbrella, Apex Healthcare's stock will plummet forty percent by morning. But more than that... Thorne is already drafting an emergency petition to challenge your sole custody claim."
"On what grounds?" Ethan snapped, finally turning around, his eyes blazing. "She is my biological flesh and blood! I am her legal father!"
"On the grounds of unstable domestic environment and abandonment of guardianship," Marcus said, his voice dropping apologetically. "Because your late wife’s death certificate and the initial infant mortality report were legally certified and filed with the state, the state currently recognizes Sofia as a ward of the state who was placed under informal, undocumented care. Thorne’s legal team is arguing that you are a grieving, unstable billionaire seeking to claim a random child to fill a psychological void."
Ethan’s fist slammed onto the mahogany bar, the impact shattering the heavy crystal scotch glass into a thousand glittering pieces. Amber liquid spilled across the polished surface like blood.
"Try to take my daughter," Ethan whispered, his voice shaking with suppressed fury. "Let Thorne try."
"What do we do with Rosa Mendez and the child?" Marcus asked cautiously. "They’re still at the house on Maple Street. If the press tracks them down—and they will, within the hour—it’s going to be a bloodbath."
Ethan walked over to his desk, picked up his encrypted satellite phone, and dialed a private number.
"Get a tactical transport team to Maple Street immediately," Ethan ordered into the receiver. "Secure the perimeter. Move Rosa and Sofia to my private estate in the Smoky Mountains before sunrise. If anyone gets in your way—journalist, police, or corporate spy—remove them."
He hung up, grabbed his coat, and strode toward the private elevator.

"Where are you going?" Marcus asked.
"To pay a visit to Julian Thorne," Ethan said coldly. "It’s time to teach him the cost of playing with my family."
