CHAPTER 7 — Locker 317

At exactly 11:58 p.m., Daniel stood alone inside the abandoned downtown train station.

The place had been closed for years.

Broken lights flickered overhead.

The only sound was the ticking of an old station clock.

In his hand was the small brass key.

Locker 317.

His heart pounded as he slid the key into the rusty lock.

Click.

The metal door creaked open.

Inside was a single cardboard box.

No money.

No weapons.

Just a bundle of old cassette tapes, a sealed envelope, and a USB drive labeled in black marker:

"If you're finally here... the truth survived."

Daniel's hands trembled.

He plugged the USB drive into his phone.

A video appeared.

Emily.

Older.

Thinner.

But unmistakably alive.

She looked directly into the camera.

"Daniel..."

"If you're watching this, it means they couldn't keep us apart forever."

"I never stopped loving you."

Tears rolled down Daniel's face.

Emily continued.

"The doctors never said I was dying."

"They said I was recovering."

"But your parents couldn't risk me coming back."

"They hired a private security company to follow me for years."

"Every time I tried to contact you..."

"...someone intercepted my letters."

She held up dozens of unopened envelopes.

"I kept writing anyway."

"Because one day..."

"...I believed our daughter would find her father."

Then Emily's expression changed.

"If this video reached you..."

"...I'm in danger."

"There is only one person who knows where I am."

The screen froze.

A name appeared.

MELISSA CARTER.

Daniel felt the world collapse beneath him.

His wife?

The woman who had comforted Ava...

The woman who had stood beside him through everything...

Why was her name on Emily's final message?

Before he could think, his phone rang.

Melissa.

He answered immediately.

Her voice was barely a whisper.

"Daniel..."

May you like

"They found me."

Then the line went dead.
