Chapter 5 - The ConfrontationThe room dropped into absolute, terrifying silence.

Richard Whitmore slammed his hand onto the mahogany table, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the floor.
“What the hell are you doing in here?!” Richard bellowed, his face turning an angry shade of purple. “Security! Get this woman out of our building immediately! She has no business—!”
“Sit down, Richard,” I said.
My voice wasn't loud. It didn't shake. But it carried the absolute, freezing authority of a predator walking into a trap of her own design.
Richard froze, his mouth half-open.
Daniel slowly stood up from his chair. He stared across the room at me, his slate-gray eyes wide, filled with a turbulent mix of shock, disbelief, and a desperate, burning recognition.
“Sophia?” Daniel whispered, his voice trembling slightly. “Where... how did you—?”
“Hello, Daniel,” I said smoothly, walking slowly down the center of the boardroom toward the head of the table. Every step I took felt like a hammer strike against their fragile corporate illusion.
Evelyn stood up, her voice shrill and trembling with rage. “You filthy little contractor! You were fired for incompetence! You have no right to step foot in a Whitmore executive session—!”
I stopped three feet away from her, pulled a thick, gold-embossed legal portfolio from my leather briefcase, and slammed it down onto the polished wood table right in front of Richard Whitmore.
Richard looked down at the portfolio, then up at me, his eyes darting nervously between my face and the seal on the cover.
“What do you want?” Richard snapped, his voice dropping an octave as panic crept into his tone.

I smiled—a cold, brilliant, untouchable smile.
“The truth,” I replied softly. “Though, to be fair... I already have it.”
