Chapter 7 - Daniel’s AwakeningDaniel had remained completely silent until that moment.

He stood frozen at the side of the table, staring down at the open pages of the financial audit report. His hands were gripping the edge of the mahogany so tightly his knuckles were stark, blinding white.

He looked up at his father, his voice a low, dangerous growl.

“Dad... what is this?” Daniel asked, every word dripping with ice. “What is Apex Holdings? Why is my signature forged on these liability waivers?”

“Daniel, don't listen to her!” Richard panicked, waving his hands frantically. “She’s a fraud! She’s trying to destroy our family legacy—!”

“Answer me!” Daniel roared, slamming his fist onto the table so hard the water crystal glasses rattled. The terrifying raw power in his voice silenced the entire boardroom instantly.

Daniel turned his gaze from his father to his wife, his eyes filled with a profound, shattering disgust. “Evelyn... did you know about this?”

Evelyn burst into hysterical tears, sinking back into her chair. “We had to keep the company afloat, Daniel! Your father’s investments were failing! If we hadn't redirected those funds, our family would have been bankrupt!”

Daniel let out a harsh, bitter laugh—a sound devoid of any humanity.

He looked back at me. For three years, he had lived in the prison of his father’s expectations, bound by a loveless marriage and a corporate lie. Now, standing amidst the ruins of his family’s empire, he finally saw the truth I had tried to show him the day I walked out.

“You were right,” Daniel whispered, his voice cracking with unbearable sorrow. “You told me I hadn't chosen myself.”

“No, Daniel,” I said gently, looking into his eyes for the first time without anger. “You finally have. Because right now, federal marshals are downstairs securing every single server in this building.”
