Chapter 7 - The Trap ClosesBy mid-afternoon, the fallout from Nathan’s digital strike had triggered a massive earthquake across the city's political and financial landscape.

Inside the sleek, glass-walled conference room of Fisher Tech downtown, Nathan sat at the head of a massive mahogany table. Across from him sat three federal investigators from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, along with Marcus Vance and a team of senior corporate lawyers.
"Mr. Fisher, the data packets your security team provided us last night gave us everything we needed," lead federal investigator Sarah Chen said, sliding a thick file across the table. "The offshore wire transfers, the fake non-profit expense reports, the collusion memos with the city zoning commissioner—it's an airtight RICO case. Julian Mallory and his associates are facing up to twenty years in federal prison."
Nathan looked at the files without a trace of satisfaction. "And the funds? What happens to the money they stole from emergency housing?"
"All remaining assets are being frozen by court order as of two hours ago," Agent Chen replied. "We're establishing a completely independent receivership fund to redirect every single stolen dollar back into true community housing and pediatric care across the state."
Marcus grinned from the end of the table. "And what about Julian’s desperate attempt to smear you on social media this morning?"
Agent Chen let out a dry laugh. "That backfired spectacularly. Within two hours of his PR team trying to leak that Iris was a runaway, your legal team released a verified medical adoption and guardianship retainer, backed by state welfare judges who fast-tracked her case after seeing the corruption evidence. Julian’s public attempt to discredit you became the nail in his own coffin."
Nathan nodded slowly. He stood up from the table, buttoning his jacket.
"Make sure the press release includes my foundation's new initiative," Nathan instructed his legal team. "We aren't just funding shelters anymore. We're building permanent, secure housing units in every major downtown square, starting with the very spot where Iris was found."
"Yes, Mr. Fisher," his lead attorney responded immediately.
Nathan walked out of the conference room and headed toward his private elevator. His phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a text message from Elizabeth Vance, accompanied by a short video clip.
Nathan tapped it open.

The video showed Iris sitting at a sunlit wooden table in his mansion’s kitchen, laughing out loud as she spooned up cereal, while Barnaby the kitten chased a ball of yarn across the gleaming hardwood floor.
For the first time in thirty-one years, a genuine, unforced smile spread across Nathan Fisher’s face.
