Chapter 10 - THE ASHES OF THE PAST AND THE DAWN OF TOMORROWThree months later, the Oakhaven Springs courthouse steps were bathed in warm autumn sunlight.

The federal trial had concluded with a sweeping conviction: Frank, Caleb, and the remaining executives linked to the syndicate were sentenced to consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole, their assets seized and redistributed to victims of their corporate fraud. Robert’s name was formally cleared of all criminal conspiracy charges posthumously, his final sacrifice recognized by the federal prosecutor as an act of redemption that saved two lives from the ashes.

Grace stood on the courthouse steps in a simple black coat, holding a small bouquet of white flowers. Beside her stood Katherine, dressed in a sharp navy blazer, her head held high, her eyes clear and untethered from the ghosts of the past.

"Are you ready?" Grace asked softly, gently squeezing Katherine's hand.

Katherine looked down at the courthouse plaza where the morning traffic flowed steadily past, bright and full of ordinary, unscripted life.

"Yes, Mom," Katherine said, using the word not as a label of convenience, but as a title earned through fire, blood, and absolute truth. "I’m ready."
