Chapter 7 - Trapped in the Rusted LabyrinthDaniel grabbed the iron bars, shaking them frantically, but the rusted hinges held firm. Behind them, the sound of footsteps grew closer, accompanied by the slow, deliberate clack of Vance’s shoes against the brick floor.

"End of the line, boys," Vance’s voice echoed down the tunnel, smooth and eerily calm.

A flashlight beam cut through the darkness behind them, illuminating the damp walls. Vance stepped into view, his pistol pointed steadily at Noah's chest. He didn't look rushed or panicked; he looked like a scientist inspecting a pair of lab rats in a cage.

"You're too late, Arthur," a new voice rang out from the shadows beyond the iron gate.

Vance froze. His expression flickered with a sudden, uncharacteristic flash of panic.

From behind the locked gate, step by slow step, a figure emerged into the dim light. It was Claire.

She looked pale, and she was leaning against the cold iron bars for support, but her eyes were sharp, lucid, and filled with a chilling vindication. In her hand, she held a heavy master key, dangling it lazily by its ring.

"Claire?" Daniel breathed, staring at her in utter disbelief. "How... how did you get down here?"

"You didn't really think I'd leave my own security backup plan to chance, did you, Daniel?" Claire smiled, though there was no warmth in it. She slid the master key into the heavy iron lock, and with a loud clack, the gate swung open.

Vance raised his pistol, aiming it directly at Claire. "Put the key down, Claire. You can't outrun what's already in motion."

"I don't need to run," Claire replied softly.

Before Vance could pull the trigger, the shadows behind him erupted into motion. Detective Miller, flanked by four heavily armed tactical officers, stepped out from the side alcoves of the tunnel, their assault rifles instantly trained on Vance.

"Drop the weapon, Dr. Vance! Federal police!" Miller roared, his voice bouncing off the brick arches.

Vance slowly lowered his pistol, looking around at the circle of armed officers. But instead of surrendering, a strange, twisted smile spread across his face.
