Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal"You think federal officers can stop what's already been set into motion?" Vance laughed softly, lowering his gun all the way to the floor. "Look at your phone, Daniel."

Confused and trembling, Daniel pulled his smartphone out of his pocket. The screen flashed with an automated emergency alert from the central hospital server.
CRITICAL SYSTEM OVERRIDE: PATIENT COLOCATION TRANSFER COMPLETE. REVENUE ASSETS TRANSFERRED TO NEW ENTITY.
Daniel stared at the screen in horror. "What is this?"
"While you were busy playing detective in the catacombs," Vance said smoothly, raising his hands as officers stepped forward to cuff him, "the pharmaceutical board executed a legal asset seizure. Claire's medical patents, her labs, and your medical license have all been formally transferred to the Global Bio-Tech Initiative."
Noah lunged forward, grabbing Vance by the collar of his lab coat. "You son of a bitch! You stole everything!"
"We didn't steal anything, Mr. Miller," a voice called out from the far end of the tunnel.
Footsteps approached, slow and measured. Out of the darkness stepped a tall, impeccably dressed woman in a charcoal-grey suit. Her silver hair was pulled back into a tight bun, and her expression was as cold as carved marble.
It was Elizabeth Thorne, the head of the National Medical Ethics Board—and the woman who had personally overseen Daniel’s accreditation years ago.

"Elizabeth?" Daniel whispered, stepping back. "What are you doing here?"
"Cleaning up your mess, Daniel," Elizabeth replied smoothly, stopping a few feet away. She looked at Claire with a cold, calculating gaze. "And putting an end to a very expensive charade."
