Chapter 4 - THE RESURRECTION OF JULIANFor a full ten seconds, the world stopped spinning. The howling wind died down, the burning tires hissed against the melting snow, and the only sound was the heavy, ragged breathing of the starving dog beside us.

"You're dead," I breathed out, the words tasting like ash in my mouth. "I buried you. I stood at your grave. I watched them lower you into the earth."

Julian let out a cold, hollow chuckle, stepping closer while his tactical team kept their weapons locked firmly on my chest.

"You buried an empty box, Victor," Julian said smoothly, stepping over the frozen corpse of one of Vance’s operatives as if he were stepping over a twig. "A clever little magic trick orchestrated by our dear friend Vance here, funded by our offshore accounts, designed to let me disappear off the grid while you took all the heat from federal investigators."

He stopped five paces away, his eyes shifting past my shoulder to the little girl huddled in the mustard sweater. A strange, unreadable flicker of emotion crossed his scarred face—something dangerously close to remorse, instantly swallowed by ruthless coldness.

"You brought her right to him, didn't you, Lily?" Julian murmured, addressing the child.

The little girl shrank back against my legs, her tiny fingers digging into the fabric of my coat. "Daddy... the bad men came. You told me to find the strongest man..."

"I told you to find him," Julian interrupted, his voice sharpening like a razor blade, "because he’s the only one arrogant enough to keep you safe while I tore the rest of this city down to its foundations."

I raised my eyes from Julian to the little girl, then back to my supposedly dead best friend. A sudden, terrifying puzzle began clicking together in my mind. The shape of her jaw. The dark, piercing eyes. The locket.

"She’s not just your daughter, is she?" I asked, a dark rage slowly boiling beneath my skin. "She’s Elena's daughter, too."

Julian’s smile vanished. The air between us dropped to absolute zero.

"She is," Julian said quietly. "Elena didn't vanish twelve years ago because she wanted to leave you, Victor. She vanished because she found out what you were really building with this syndicate—and she came to me to help her escape. We hid her. We protected her. And when your enforcers finally tracked her down three years ago..."

Julian’s voice hitched, a rare crack of genuine agony breaking through his icy facade.

"...They didn't miss. They killed her. And I’ve spent the last three years building an army just to make you pay for every drop of blood she spilled."

The revelation hit me like a physical hammer to the chest. The locket. The faded blue ink. The betrayal I had harbored for a decade was nothing more than a carefully constructed lie designed to turn brother against brother.

"You lied to me," I whispered, the rage inside me threatening to tear my sanity apart. "You let me live with the guilt for twelve years. You let me believe she walked away."

"I let you live," Julian corrected coldly, raising his hand to signal his tactical team. "Which is more than you deserve. Now... step away from the child. This is between you and me."
