Chapter 7 - THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR AT THE GATEThree months later, the legal storm had finally settled into a peaceful routine.

Parker had been permanently transferred to a maximum-security federal penitentiary two states away, entirely cut off from outside communications. Alana and Ellie had accepted plea deals resulting in five-year suspended sentences and permanent restraining orders prohibiting them from coming within five hundred miles of Clarissa or Dustin.

The country house had undergone a complete renovation. Clarissa had ripped out the old dining room table where Alana and Ellie had committed their cruelty, replacing it with a custom oak table built by a local craftsman—a symbol of new foundations and unbreakable strength.

It was a crisp Saturday morning when the motion-sensor security camera at the front gate chimed.

Clarissa was sitting on the front porch with a cup of tea, reviewing hospital shift schedules, while Dustin practiced riding his bicycle down the long gravel driveway.

A sleek black sedan pulled up outside the security gate.

Clarissa stood up, her hand instinctively dropping to her phone. Since the trial, she remained hyper-vigilant.

The car door opened, and an unfamiliar woman in her late forties stepped out. She wore simple, elegant clothing, but her eyes were red-rimmed and filled with a profound, trembling hesitation. She walked slowly up to the iron gate, staring at the house as if she were visiting a ghost.

Clarissa walked down the porch steps, approaching the gate with caution.

“Can I help you?” Clarissa asked, her voice calm but firm.

The woman gripped the iron bars of the gate, tears spilling freely down her cheeks.

“My name is Elena,” the woman whispered, her voice cracking. “Elena Vance… Parker’s first wife.”

Clarissa stopped dead in her tracks.

The name hit her like a physical blow. Sarah Miller was Parker’s second victim on paper, but Elena… Elena was the woman Parker had terrorized before Sarah, the one whose very existence had been scrubbed from public records by Parker’s elaborate web of lies.

“You’re… you’re Elena?” Clarissa asked, her breath catching in her throat.

Elena nodded, trembling. “I saw the news reports about Parker’s conviction three months ago. I saw how you fought back. For years, I believed I was the only one—the only woman he destroyed, the only one who lost everything because I was too terrified to speak up.”

Clarissa didn’t hesitate. She unlocked the heavy iron gate and swung it wide open.

“Come inside,” Clarissa said softly, her voice filled with profound empathy.
